Morning all - a bit grey this morning but definitely warmer so I'll head off out to bag up the rest of the leaves left on the drive since Wed when I got rained off after raking them into piles. Might cut back and shred the raspberries too. One nice thing about gardening at this time of year - you can do jobs and not feel like they'll need doing again in a couple of weeks...๐Ÿ™‚

Last couple of days have been spent sorting out flights and travel insurance for our trip to Canada / Alaska next summer. Some of the logistics of timings with two countries / time differences and current Covid PCR testing requirements have made things very tricky to sort out. I thought my brain would explode on Thursday. Hopefully things will be simpler come June but we now have stuff in place so (if needs be) we have sufficient time to do one PCR test in the UK (for entering Canada) and another one in Vancouver for boarding the ship a couple of days later.๐Ÿคž

Took literally a day and a half to sort out the insurance with both of us working on it. Spent hours checking small print - particularly regarding Covid. Most policies cover us to cancel if one of us tests positive or has to isolate but we couldn't find one to cover us if the Canadian or US decide to close their borders again. We're taking the optimistic view that countries will do everything they can to stay open for tourism next summer.๐Ÿคž

LB - what a lovely surprise and treat from your friends yesterday - many congratulations to them.

Rubee - hope your OH is feeling a bit better today. So very worrying for you.

Sorry to hear some of you are struggling with sleepless nights . It was my turn on Wednesday but I've slept like the proverbial log since then.

    Snow Ante? - nooooooooo!

Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

Hazel, I must be honest and say: be prepare for what is waiting on you at your mother's attic. ๐Ÿ˜

T'bird, I'm sure that all effort will paid off when you visit North America next summer. I had the same reaction when I heard word snow, but it will be short episode, I hope.

LB, meant to say earlier, best wishes to your friends. It so nice of them for preparing small party for you all.ย

It's our village Bonfire, fireworks and hog roast tonight. The village hall is shared between 2 villages so it's in a big field, quite isolated. Shouldn't upset too many pets.

Cold, grey and windy this morning. I went for a walk but decided to cut it short.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • LB I managed to get the shopping thank you. ย I bought some ciabatta bread to have with Brussels pate for tea and some treats for Alfie. ย Chive poor Nel, such a scary time for animals. ย It can be so distressing for them. ย

Sad to hear of Lionel Blairโ€™s passing. ย

LB what a lovely surprise and all good wishes to the newlyweds, lovely of them to provide food for everyone ย

Hazel I like the loft cartoon. ย As you say, what a pal Ava. ย I hope the bathroom pull is soon sorted without too much hassle. ย Iโ€™m sure 23 will enjoy playing with his flip top mobile . ย

Busy Iโ€™m so sorry to hear of your daughters marriage ending. ย An emotional time. ย We invest a lot in those we love. ย

Topbird Iโ€™m glad you were able to sort out your holiday, although not straightforward.

I hope all those with interrupted sleep will have a better night.

Lily I hope you and oh are staying warm and cosy.

Afternoon all. Well there was a little gleam of sun this morning so I got a lot of rubbish into my bins but then the usual thing happened and I retired indoors and watched the rugby. Ante please don't mention the 's' word! Its still too early for thatย  I hope that you have enjoyed your long walk with your dog.
Gosh T'Bird, what a lot of hoops you have to jump through to travel but I am certain it will be well worth it in the long run. You mention 'cruise'. Are you hoping to whale watch whilst travelling there? I would love to go and hear the wolves howling - though I do think a human trigger is a bit of a cheat. I was just thinking - re your remark about jobs not needing doing again - leaves! I got all mine collected up and then along came the wind and whoosh! Leaves falling like flakes of that substance Ante mentioned before. Grrr!
Its amazing Hazel to think of all that flower power stored inside the rather unprepossessing bulbs and corms but boy they do not disappoint in the Spring.
Busy, you sound as if you might have an interesting night tonight. I hope that it doesn't rain.
Dove, I do hope you manage to shake off the head cold. I really dislike those colds where you feel congested all the time. A nice steam inhalation with menthol in the water is a good help.
Chive, I think that we can get tired just watching youngsters work. I envy them their energy.
SGL, are you ready for Strictly tonight?
I hope that Debs and Yvie are fine.

Gosh, RosieBB, Hazel and Biglad you weren't there when I posted. RosieBB, your tea sounds delicious. Is Alfie over the cough now? Hazel I was glad when the water tank in my loft was removed. Tens of years back we had a minor earthquake here and I could hear the water sloshing around in the tank. I was glad when I got the combi boiler as I hated the thought of the water tank developing a leak and the water coming through the bedroom ceiling. The only thing I have in my loft is luggage.
p.s. Biglad, did your team win?

  • Afternoon All, successful expedition to collect my brothers car then we did a little convoy back,
LB Good to hear you had some time in the garden today, those leaves just keep on coming donโ€™t they. How is Jack and his daughter? I hope they are both recovering well,ย
Ante I am sorry for missing your post this morning, goodness you have snow on the way brrr ๐Ÿฅถ I hope you and your dog are back in the warm after a chilly walk to the cottage,ย
Topbird What a lot of organising youโ€™ve had to do for your trip next year, it does sound like a fantastic holiday,
Hazel A very productive session in the loft, the sensory motion light is an excellent idea to have up there. Iโ€™m sure 23 will love his new toy flip phone, I expect thereโ€™ll be lots of pretend calls with him ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ“ž๐Ÿ˜€
Rosie Yours tea does sound very tasty, I had a sausage sandwich naughty but nice ๐Ÿ˜Šย
    Biglad Oh dear!
Busy Hope you have a nice time watching the fireworks, it sounds like a really good community night out, wrap up warm,ย
    Have a nice evening everyone.ย
