Our MP when I was growing up was well liked locally. He was Liberal (before the 'Dem' addition). Not perfect by any means, but worked for his living

Don't the insulate Britain protesters understand that their protests can only be counterproductive?
The government cannot be seen to give in to them, so insultating Britain is highly unlikely to happen.

Our MP works for his living.
Last year he made almost £750,000 at his legal practice, whilst still being paid by the taxpayer for being a full time MP.

Yeah, sorry. Should have been more specific. He worked for his MP's salary. He died in 1986, though, so whether that would be still true in today's Parliament, I can't say.

Ours now seems OK. I don't agree with his politics, but he does seem to represent the views of the people I know round here, which I guess is what he's supposed to do. It irritates me though that it doesn't actually make any difference whether he does or not, they'd all vote for him because of the colour of his badge and there is zero possibility of any other colour badges winning anything at all. District council, county council, MP. All the same, all the time.

To effect change here, I'd have to glue myself to the high street, or the church porch. Actually today, I'm making more of a difference in Cornwall than in my own town. Their Council is less complacent, even though it's the same colour.

I've never voted for either Labour or Conservative. but if I had to vote for one over the other, it's be Labour.
IMHO Tories just don't give a toss about poor/ downtrodden/ minorities, nor have they ever done.
Their list of dodgy doners is totally endless. I wonder if there's anyone so despicable that they'd actually refuse money from.

    Len McClusky! 😆
  • There's many constituencies with voters for the colour of the rosette.  It's why there's a Labour metropolitan socialist elite in London. It's why Diane Abbott is still in among others. It's why there's a rees-mogg, Marc francois, etc. I could go on with MPs of all colours. That's before I start on devolved parties of course.

At least the green party is half decent. I mean it's probably easier to get a decent mp when you only have one! Can't vote for them because I don't agree with their policies outside of their reason to exist,  the planet and global warming.

Right now the issue is a lack of quality from all sides of the political spectrum, lack of a clue how to proceed from all sides and no prospect for quality to get in because of selection process. As a nation we're a dead duck waiting to be roasted by any country who can be bothered to deal with us.

Popped into another shop before the SM this morning and couldn't believe my eyes, it was totally decked out with Christmas tat already.

Washed a glass jar for recycling, it’s got a peel off plastic label,  bag of caster sugar, plastic bag, says it’s waterproof, good, I can leave it out in the garden then.
whats happened to paper,   They want us to reduce our plastic waste, hows that work then.
