And a CHERRY BLOSSOM tree, which grows up to 4m or 13 feet. I have one in my garden. Puts out first blooms first thing in spring and lifts your spirits. That is how I know that spring is here. Bees will flock to it in spring when it is in bloom. Then cherries appear in late summer and autumn. Birds flock to it …
You said that the cherries on the tree in your garden are ripening now … thus they would be providing much needed autumn and winter food for the birds.
That is misleading.

The FRUITS on the tree in my garden are ripening now. I had not looked at them closely and they are the size of cherries. An easy mistake from not looking closely at a tree someone else planted and that came with the property.

But therefore it was not sensible to advise someone to plant a cherry tree, based on a mistaken identity by not looking closely at the tree. Im sure that as an engineer, you would not give advice to another engineer unless you were sure of your facts.
edited to add - apologies to @jessbee for my comment but perhaps in view of how this discussion is deteriorating it might be better for you to begin afresh with another thread😊
The early suggestions of trees offset in a wider border would look great I think and create a more natural look whilst still screening the houses which overlook.

Wrong. A tree someone else planted has no relevance. I did not base anything on a tree another person has planted.
My past experience in planting and bringing up cherry trees is what the advice is based on and it is right and correct advice.

I think this says it all. I’m not going to be tempted to respond again.
Would also like to offer apologies to jessbee, could we reassure her that most responses will be helpful, and that threads rarely turn out like this. I do hope she will not be discouraged from posting again on a new thread.
Attempt to trash and undermine my helpful advice has been atrocious. I used to belong to National Trust conservation groups where I lived, in Oxford, Harrow, and Cambridge. Now I only get newsletters and buy wildlife things because I don't have the time to spare. But I help people and creatures under stress in the spirit of the National Trust.
No, stupid. I gave advise on the cherry blossom trees I had planted and brought up in the past.
The tree in my current place did not factor into it. It is irrelevant. Somebody else planted it and it came with the property. I never paid any attention to it until someone wanted to see it here.
Calling people "stupid" isn't doing you any favours either.

I used to be a member of the YOC, and still love birds.
