  • Thank you so much for this Marlorena, I had wondered a while back about whether an extra prune would help, but hadn’t the confidence to try it- though I do like a good prune, I must say!  The side shoots especially seem to grow like billyo so it’s reassuring to know I can give them an extra trim.  I know what you mean about the flower form of St Swithun, - it’s not a favourite of mine.  I originally had an old Zepherine Drouin (not sure if I’ve spelled it correctly) around the door, which was utterly gorgeous, but dreadful for black spot, so had to removed.
Its great to benefit from the forum- my moniker of Supergardener is less a statement of ability, more of aspiration!😂

Ys, thanks for that valuable advice @Marlorena, gives me confidence to deal with my own Claire Austin.

Thank you for the nice comments  about my TCl delivery. It was better than Christmas and I am positively joyful in anticipation, like a jolly Scrooge counting his money. Very frustrating for you @Nollie, hope you get a good result and soon.
@Cooldoc I ordered way back in the summer and they were poised to deliver end Nov but a substitution I asked for delayed things. Once they sent the email that the roses had been despatched it was a week including a Bank holiday weekend and I had detailed tracking to follow progress. I have not duplicated any roses but am very guilty of coveting what others on here have so several will be familiar.
I really enjoyed the video @Fire, Leon would be a great guide for a personal tour where you could get the info pitched at your own level. It did make me muse on how the intrusive road noise is eliminated on glossier garden tour documentaries but maybe all our great and good gardens are more isolated from main roads by design and powerful influences! Not that the queen herself can escape plane noise in Windsor.

@tack yes, road noise was my first thought too. A shame to have such a beautiful place right on a main road.

Ive pruned all of mine now bar Belle du jour and lady marmalade who both have buds and are still quite compact anyway.
Heres my random of the day... this arrived from harkness... except I definaley didnt order it and all my orders have arrived! Im nowhere near my golden anniversary yet either having not been on this earth 50 years let alone married for that long! ;)

Only thing I can think of is May last year I ordered 95th celebration (pink and white ruffled...)... but it turned out to be designer sunset (yellow!)  they sent, when I contacted them the correct rose was out of stock... but I said I was happy to wait..... its Jan 2022 and Ive got a random order cant be a completely wrong rose again surely??  Ive emailed them, we shall see!

@Tack It was my mistake to think that you already had those.. Get mixed up with names.. even I drool over all the wonderful roses here and end up being bankrupt by next season... :p

@JessicaS that was funny.. may be they assumed it was your 50th when you ordered 95th celebration :#
I am inclined to buy their Queen Elizabeth rose- not that I do not have enough pinks, just that they have mentioned it as being highly fragrant.

Hi, I'm new here and trying to work out all the abbreviations!
I bought a lot of new roses this time last year. They will have a very light prune this month.
I've identified some gaps in the garden, so looking for inspiration.

    Beautiful North Wales - hiraeth
