..both the Vitax Azalea and the DA fert, which are essentially the same, whilst not totally organic, both have an organic base, which I suspect is poultry manure, as they both smell of poultry... my dog used to be quite irritated by it and go digging..
...talking of fertilizers, I don't like inorganic for my garden if I can help it, and it's important to use fertz. with trace elements, especially containing Boron, as boron deficiency can cause the central dominant shoot to lose that dominance and it produces a shoot either side, so you then have 3 growing together which will look like a witches broom..
However in this instance below I'm inclined to think the dominant central shoot got frost damaged, it's actually lost the top and is broken. This is why I always say to people worried about frost damaging shoots, roses have 2 more dormant buds either side if that happens, and it will reshoot from these..
been raining since last 2 days.. cannot imagine going months without rain @Nollie
I have not received my DA handbook yet.. did everyone else get it? last thing I want is wasting another copy (last year they had sent twice).. will wait till weekend, if it does not arrive then will order it..
@Tack do you remove/scrape off the topsoil from your pots every year?
...this is a wild guess but I'm wondering if they send out the handbook according to our surnames, so those beginning A,B,C will get it earlier than those starting Y, or Z..
.. so if your surname begins with an A, and you still haven't received it, then my theory is completely wrong...

Perfectly possible and probable. I am R and I got it yesterday.
@cooldoc, I haven't scraped any soil off the pots yet but most of them are still within 1 year of being potted up into a bigger pot. When I pot on I do knock off all loose soil from the 'shoulders' of the rootball. I plant leaving a good depth to the visible rim so I can mulch and I do sometimes renew this if it looks unsightly. I expect if I think the roses are getting pot bound in future I will turn them out, root prune and give new growing mix. If they aren't favourites I might just dispose and start again with shiny new!
Interesting theory @Marlorena, me getting one same time as you fits with alphabetical order.
@Fire, I've just planted three bareroot roses and think they'll be fine. I think I planted the ones before in November 2020. You should be okay to go ahead now.
I bought a big box of Vitax Rose Food last November but haven't opened it yet. I'm waiting for the weather to clear up a bit before feeding and mulching all my roses. Talking of which my credit card statement has just arrived - ouch, four roses, a Japanese herbaceous sickle and two more sonic Cat deterrent thingies! Oh and a new vacuum cleaner and a hotel holiday. Crikey, I'm not usually that extravagant - honest!

.. if foxes are a problem best to use inorganic..
