Foxes are a pest in towns too. I'm sure that a humane way could be found to decrease their numbers everywhere.  Blokes in red coats on horses chasing uncontrollable packs of dogs might not work in urban gardens. These gentlemen have no more respect or consideration for the dogs than they have for the foxes . The dogs and foxes  are tools of the sport, much like a cricket bat .
Humane - I've always considered that a strange concept

Just heard on Radio 4’s Farming Today programme that, while trail hunting has been banned, drag hunting has not.

So don’t worry Lyn, all those tailors of red jackets who might have gone out of business can now turn their hands to making big flouncy dresses. And think of the business opportunities for the make up and wig industries.

I've just had another of those 'laugh out loud' moments.  Visions of drag queens running across the countryside with the hunt in hot pursuit.

maybe they could dress one of the hounds in a fox skin and the others could hunt it?
They always say " it's just a quick nip to the back of the neck " don't they?

Maybe the hunters could take turns to dress up as foxes and be chased around the countryside by their mates on horses and a pack of hounds? The hounds can't help what they've been bred and trained for.

That's exactly what drag hunting is.

I prefer KT53 's idea of dressing them up as drag queens

Ah, I see. I'd assumed someone went out and laid a scent trail of some sort rather than actually being hunted themselves.

There are two sorts of drag hunting, depending on the type of hounds used ...bloodhounds have a much more sensitive sense of smell and can follow the scent of a human, whereas foxhounds and harriers usually follow a human dragging a scent (I think it's usually aniseed).  The human has a bit of a head start but the scent is fresh.

Trail hunting, which the Nat. Trust  has just decided to ban, follows a pre-laid trail and as has been found is open to abuse by some.
