There's also the amount you drink - whether as water directly, or for kettle filling. My tea habit alone must use about 2 litres a day  :)

I need to think about my estimations before making a calculation. 10L per toilet flush. 12L per dishwasher run. 1L per hand wash. Etc. Per day average, takes some thinking about.
There's a handy little usage calculator here:

    My waterbill says,

"Did you know your daily usage is the same as 7 showers or 1400 cups of tea" !

No idea. It doesn't apply in Scotland. We pay a fixed rate with our council tax.
I have the numbers for the 4 nations, and Scotland is about 25% higher than the others in usage.

But then you (and North-West England) probably get a lot more than 25% extra rain, and as you say hardly anyone has a meter - which make people focus on it a bit more when they are installed.

Ours used to be a lot of money when it was based on the rates, now I pay £28.00 a quarter.

At the moment I'm more concerned to get down my energy (carbon) usage, though yes, this does relate to water too.
That's interesting; we'll have to have another thread.

Our average rainfall here [ in my area] is around 4 feet per year.

wow - £60 per six months is doing well - with your large garden and all your propagation. That's a third of mine. The cost per unit, standing charges and waste water charges might be less with your water company...

Oh, oh but how much cheaper my life would be without a garden :D

(ps I have gone back to my previous messages and edited a lot to add bits).

    None. No mains.
Use as little as possible when it is dry, so as not to empty the tank.
The rest of the time it really doesn't matter, as used or unused it ends up in the same stream.
