@fire. don't you have a meter? You would save pounds if you do. I often look at the meter, if it’s turning when I’m out there then there’s a leak.
I do. I had TW look at it repeatedly, most recently about two months ago. They checked and said there was no leak and no metre movement. But I have been checking the bills and they are showing usage when the house is empty.
This chart is from when I was away recently. Any ideas? It's around one or two litres per hour which, on the day shown, is 30 litres lost per day, which is one third of recommended daily usage (plus I'm billed for it).
I can see now what you mean, Do they really think you’re drawing off a litre all through the night. The problem is that they are only responsible for checking leaks from the road to the meter everything else is your responsibility, didn’t they advise you to get someone in to look at your fittings, water system, heating pipes. Sounds like that’s where the problem must be.

@Lyn it's a really long story that has been going on about four years, discovered since they put the metre in.

Nobody is thinking anything. It's just a system - the metre readings are relayed and the bills issues accordingly. Nobody checks them in person. So, as ever, it's up to the householder to find the problem and complain, rather than TW monitoring. Covid put a spanner in the works, as they wouldn't come out for most of last year. But TW is such a sprawling, disconnected company with such terrible admin systems that it's hard to have a sensible conversation with staff that goes anywhere. They are not exactly arguing with me - just shrugging and losing notes.
I'm fairly certain that the leak is outside the house, and theirs to fix. The leak may have been going on for decades and only highlighted when the metre went in. Which is kind of the point (for TW) for having a metre, they say. But then they don't monitor losses.🙄
Ok, I assumed someone came to your house to actually check and spoke to you. The leak could be outside your house but if it’s your side of the meter they won’t care. when you were charged on your house rates you wouldn't have noticed. Short of a big rant with them, if you can actually find a person to rant too, I don’t suppose there’s much to be done.

Fire, have you double checked the toilet cisterns? One of ours started to overflow, not obviously visible as it wasn’t a lot, and went straight down into the loo, so no water getting onto the floor. I only noticed it because I could hear the cold tank in the loft filling during the night, and not just after we’d flushed the loo. Very quick adjustment in the cistern ( luckily low level, not one of those retro high level ones with a chain! ) and easily sorted.
Yes. I'm fairly sure it's a leak around the meter itself. I have had TW people come and check over four years. I admit that after hundreds of phone calls I am losing the will.

Have you had a new meter?
