My Sungold were as expected this year - not too sweet and with the expected "tang" It does depend on your taste buds ( like anything else ) but I've been growing them for years and never been disappointed. I wonder recently if it is a seed problem -I tried Bloody Butcher this year instead of my usual Black Krims and they were not as described. They ripened to resemble a basic tomato - round, red and average flavour.

I've noticed over the last few years that the commercial growers and breeders have been aiming for ever more sweet toms. I wasn't able to get my usual Black Cherry this year so did Chocolate Cherry instead. They weren't too bad actually altho I think somewhat sweeter than the black. I find most of the toms available in the shops these days have very little flavour to them - seems if they are round and red and the label says Tomatoes that's about it ! I always dread my tomato harvests coming to their end.
I've grown Sungold a couple of times and haven't liked them. They pretty much all split on picking and I wasn't wowed by the flavour either. So many people rave about them though, but I won't be growing them again.
This year I used up the last of my tomato seeds so "new to me" varieties for this summer were Red Cherry, Galina and Golden Grape.
I really like the Red Cherry, it was vigorous, very productive with huge long trusses and a tangy ketchup taste. Occasionally the skin was thicker than I like, but I'm saving seed to grow again.
Galina is a yellow cherry with potato leaves, beautifully soft thin skin and a lovely mild flavour. Probably my favourite yellow tomato I've grown yet.
Golden Grape was from the HSL and is a determinate bush with gooseberry sized yellow fruits. Skin is thin and the fruit is extremely juicy.
Next year I want to try one of the black tomatoes. I grew chocolate cherry a few years ago but wasn't crazy about it. Maybe black cherry would be better.

I grew Shirley F1, Super Mama, Sweet Aperitif, and Tumbling Tom Red this year all from DT Brown in Newmarket. Very pleased with Shirley F1 as a standard sized well flavoured tomato, I have grown sweet aperitif for a number of years as an alternative to G/Delight, The Super Mama was for making Passata and was very successful in the GH but we didn't get enough sun for successful ripening outdoors but they did ripen when we brought them indoors. I tried the Tumbling Tom in some hanging baskets - they ripened OK but the taste was bland so I will not bother with them again. Another tomato variety I have have good results from in past years was 'Crystal' from Thompson & Morgan but DT Brown don't do that one so went for the 'Shirley' with excellent results.
I've grown Sungold - Suncherry Premium - rosela - Apero - Shirley . I like sweet tomatoes , Suncherry still the best Tomato for my taste buds with Sungold up second I don't find them bland at all. rosella nice and so was Apero, Shirley I am still thinking about they take much longer to ripen I haven't been eating them.
I grow Sungold outdoors … for the past few years I’ve grown them in the soil rather than in pots and i ‘grow them hard’ … some general fertiliser on planting out and one or two doses of tomato feed when the first trusses are setting, and I only water them if the leaves are flagging.
They have a superb ‘sweet but tart’ flavour and this year at least they were early enough for us to pick a few before the blight struck, unlike the other later varieties.

I quite like Sungold too, and find them as @Dovefromabove describes. Mine are grown undercover and I don't overfeed either. Always been in pots, but I'll be doing some next year and they'll be in the ground. There's no doubt that over watering and over feeding affects the flavour.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
