Sorry that is an urban myth. If you need a vaccination, do not delay it because you have had a COVID jab, and don,t delay your COVID jab, if you have had another vaccination.

@Fire - I normally opt for micropore too, but had difficulty getting it recently. I keep some in my rucksack too - but I'd used that.  I do something very similar to you, but I use folded tissues instead of cotton wool  ;)
Coming back off a hill recently, I took all the skin off the bottom of one heel, due to the very rough, renewed bit of the W. highland Way which forms part of the return journey. I didn't even notice it  - wasn't sore at all - until I had a shower. Thought it was a giant piece of micropore, until I realised - I hadn't used any  :D

@punkdoc - glad you're ok. Take it easy please. You're not 27 any more you know  ;)

Hmm food for thought. I haven't had a tetanus jab for probably 30 years or more and I frequently get small cuts and scrapes in the garden, as well as insect bites that invariably get absent-mindedly scratched with dirty fingernails. I've got an appointment with the practice nurse next week for blood tests so if I remember. I'll ask her if I should be having a tetanus booster.

Let us know what she says!

My last T jab was when I was about 16, after falling onto a chain harrow, 30 years ago.

  • Was in for a flu jab last year, the surgery always send for my wife and myself for some reason (they get paid extra to do so?) the nurse said to me, you garden don't you, i'll give you a booster for your tetanus jab, so I had that as well!

As Punkdoc has pointed out in other places, thousands of people in the UK can die of flu and pnuemonia each year. Many more thousands get ill and tie up health resources. So the jab is worth having if you are in a more vulnerable group.

You can ask the GP/nurse for a tetanus booster but they won't necessarily agree. I just got told 'no, not necessary any more'. End of story. I suppose I could get a private jab if I was so minded.
