Back from the farm shop ... Barnsley chops for Sunday and I also got some rare breed bacon with the rind on!!! How long is it since I've seen rashers of bacon with the rind on ? That's proper bacon that is
They have some garden plants and stuff for sale outside the shop and they'd got some standard variegated salixes ... all with shoots on the stems ... so I stuck my nose in and showed them how to rub them out and explained why ... then we discussed growing bay trees, how to deal with ground elder and various other PITAs and I recommended that she joins up and pops in here some time ... I wonder if she will ... she's an incredibly busy woman ... but you know what they say, if you want something done ask a busy woman (or chap, I'm sure it applies to them too ).
Now for a coffee .........

Morning all, it's already 23.6 here so it's going to be a scorcher. The GP rang and confirmed that OH has arthritis of the hip and is recommending intensive physio and/or surgery. He has referred OH to a consultant. The situation in Germany, Belgium and Holland sounds horrific, as you say @Obelixx, lucky you got there and back prior to the floods. Enjoy your beach trip and meal out. @Dordogne_Damsel, I didn't realise you were opening every day, you must be mad. No wonder you're exhausted and stressed. Sounds as though you will be well rid of your male chef - what a pillock! Difficult situation indeed @Hostafan1 but Dove is right, on no account must you be badgered into looking after your OH at home. We tried with my mum and it was exhausting. There are specialist dementia/cancer care homes around, they just may not be very near to you. Be kind to yourself though, you do not need to visit every day, even though you feel you should.
Just had a letter from my mental health support worker. She's leaving her job and there is nobody to take over her caseload, so I'm being "discharged" from the servie as of today. Just as well I don't need any support right now eh?
Very warm here - under the parasol for a while then might pop to SM just to have the air con drive!
I wondered if things may be tricky re the best placement @Hostafan1. Ultimately a palliative care team will make sure he has his comfort care wherever he is. My heart goes out to you.
Edit: that’s ridiculous about the caseworker Hosta - they can’t just discharge people for the reason of short staff. A letter as well - extra rude.
My OH had intensive physio @Lizzie27 before they referred him to a consultant. Didn't do any good apart from hurt. Just delayed the first appointment with a consultant for several months. If he hadn't had the physio he would have had the hip replacement before the start of Covid. I can't help feeling angry about it all. When you are in your late 70s you don't want to waste time in pain like that when you may not have that much time let. Goodness knows when he will have his op now.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
At the very least there's online support there. Better than nothing ... and remember, you're never alone ... we're all here and thinking of you all the time ((huge hugs))
Sadly the way a lot of NHS/Soc. Services posts work, is that they don't advertise or appoint a position until after the previous person has left, because the costs have to come out of the wages budget. Bonkers but that's the way it is. Hopefully there'll be someone appointed in 3 months ... that's the usual ... but in the meantime ... 🙄

Remember that well! When I was working, my NHS annual budget included a ‘vacancy factor’. Supposedly, I would save a certain amount every year through people leaving or retiring, and new people starting later, and at a lower salary. Because we had a very stable workforce with little turnover, and as a specialised service, we didn’t recruit inexperienced staff on the lowest grade, it meant that a chunk of my budget had to be ‘paid’ back, before I’d even started on the years spending. Infuriating.
Hostafan, Speaking to GP is an excellent suggestion. Our local practice seems to be offering specific support for carers, although I have no actual experience of this. Have you been in touch with Hospiscare, Marie Curie and similar? I know MacMillan have been very useful for friends and family. I certainly can’t believe that it is possible to just discharge a client on the grounds of no staff! They’ll never get the budget to replace them if there’s is no caseload. Maybe that’s the idea! Cost saving. Quite incredible. Who can you complain to? And how are you expected to have the time and energy for that, with what you are going through? I have steam coming out of my ears right now.
And before anyone jumps on NHS management etc ... it's NOT THEIR FAULT! Its the only way they can manage a rapidly growing and continually underfunded organisation. Successive governments have been elected on the promise to save money, rather than daring to be honest with the electorate about how much it actually costs to run the essentials of our lives ........ and yet we can apparently afford to waste millions on ridiculous proposals for flower-bedecked bridges across the Thames, and royal yachts that the royals themselves say is a bad idea. 😠

Also worth speaking to your GP @Hostafan1, they might be able to suggest something else.
