I’m loving it, it’s not for long, My fingers and toes feel as though they’re suffering from frostbite in the winter, this is lovely. It’s summer. Unfortunately it’s over tomorrow back to the usual.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
Nipped round and spoke to the neighbour at the end of my garden. Turns out she knew my wife as she'd worked with her at the local school where my wife had been a TA for 19 years - and her kids were a couple of years younger than ours. Anyway...that made me feel worse, as I felt I was dumping the problem on her. I Emailed her the ESCC boundary diagram, and she's going to check her deeds to see what they show for the boundaries - I'm certain we can sort out what to do (if she wants to do anything that is) with the tree between us. I don't envy her though, as her property backs onto at least a half-dozen other properties and most have some form of growth outside their fences, but on the banks of the stream.
It also turned out that the tree surgeon I would have used to look at the tree - who's wife my wife also worked with at the school - she knows anyway, as she went to school with him. Worse than Norfolk - constantly expect to hear the sound of Duelling Banjos.
I think we need one day warm then one day with rain. It's nice to have summer rain when it's hot I think.
Hot weather results in heat stress if you're at work in a hot space. There are no work stations that are below 30 degrees at work I reckon. When they opened up the structural wall between two linked warehouses so an airflow is possible from large doors on opposite sides a few years ago they got a bit of relief. Now that hasn't helped possibly it is warmer probably less breeze. Even the large industrial fans used to cool parts down when turned on the workers offer no respite. It's simply moving hot air around. You know that feeling when you've flown on holiday to somewhere warm and you reach the door of the plane and get that really hot air hit you. It's like that at wirk with the fans only even warmer.
Nice weather might be nice for people at home or in air conditioned offices. It's not the same for factory workers in small, hot factories working to production counts despite the heat.
Most summers it doesn't seem as bad as this hot period. If I'm away from work I can cope easily. There's things I can do like wear cooler clothes, drink cooler drinks, take things easy, etc. I can move into shade, get an airflow through the house by opening the doors, I can sit at the top of the garden under shade from large trees which is actually a lot cooler with the breeze up there and moisture from the trees.
At work it's a lot easier to manage the cold than the hot. Can you imagine the fuel costs to use air con in a big, open warehouse factory with ovens to add to the heat. The company would simply go bust keeping the room cool enough!! Single skin roof with skylights too.
Took the dogs out to woods yesterday cooler to walk. Then to a tea garden haven't been to for over a year, was having coffee cake, till I saw the quiche advertised cheese/ onion, Lovell, didn't want lunch and veg, slice with garnish, asked if it was still available, yes. Go and sit in the shade, lady comes over, run out did I want cheese/ bacon,no,told her I don't eat bacon,OK, maybe I should have said meat at this point, she offered me sausage roll, then told her I don't eat meat. Was so looking forward to that quiche, was told to queue up for refund, hubby did for 10 minutes, but in full sun and probably a dozen people in front of him gave up
Sainsbury's have run out of peanuts. I can live with that😊 Edit to say I tell a lie. There were salt an vinegar flavoured peanuts readily available. I'm obviously not the only one who didn't fancy them.
Going to and from work by train there's rarely anyone wearing a mask this week. Not surprised but a little disappointed. The guard wears one checking tickets. I wear one too. You get the odd other one wearing them. I guess we are the odd ones for still wearing them.
On a plus note my mask hides the painful insect bite on the end of my nose. Seriously? Who gets bitten on their nose? I didn't even know it had happened. Must have been in my sleep. I now have a glowing, red and bulbous end to my nose that I never had before I might add! My partner called me over to help her with a job by calling me Rudolph! And I answered to it!!!!
Any advice on angry insect bites on the tip of the nose? I used insect bite cream then half hour later germolene for its anaesthetic qualities. Kind of helps but you do end up with the ghost smell of ointment for quite some time.
Train delayed to let two fast trains through. Some guy is moaning about it loudly to nobody who's really listening. Think he's an angry man who needs to chill. There's nothing you can do about it so why make a fuss? It only winds you up more. STFU angry man you're being annoying. Why can't I just say that to him? I'm 6'5" tall and a former martial artist. What's he going to do if I tell him to STFU in person?
Sorry but I'm not liking today so far. It has the feel of being a right bust of a day. Even though I finish before 12pm and get home about 12:30 I still have the feeling it's only going downhill from here. A full grump today I think!

I suffer, literally , with Reynaud's in winter . Give me a heatwave any day.
Need to get used to longer and hotter warm spells.
