Lots of people on the forum say that some of their cats ignore and some love it.

Interesting. Apparently catnip and catmint are two different species of the Nepeta genus. Well I never!

  • I have just planted one that looks identical to the one Monty has. It’s called Nepeta Junior Walker. It grows 30-40cm in height & spread. I purchased it for £5.99 from RHS partner garden ballyrobert. Lovely plant.

I love nepeta but one of our feline visitors did too. He didn’t crap on it he just kept rolling on it and eating it. Poor thing didn’t stand a chance 🙄

I’ve planted a Junior Walker this year. This is it ten weeks on from being a tiny plug…. Been squashed once (I’m guessing a cat!) but recovered. It’s about 20 cm tall at its highest reach

I also have ‘Purrsian Blue’ and haven’t seen any interest from the neighbourhood cats. Maybe this variety has lower levels of nepetalactone? It’s larger then the plant Monty was holding though, mine is about 1.5 feet tall.

‘Kitten Around’ (which I’ve seen for sale in my GC) is the result of a cross
between Nepeta x faassenii 'Purrsian Blue' and Nepeta 'Psfike’ (‘Little Trudy’), and according to the sales patter is “even more compact and petite” than ‘Purrsian Blue’.

I've got a couple of these and it seems to me that they're not as favoured by cats as the ordinary Nepeta/cat mint.

I’ve just bought Nepeta Neptune. In the garden centre they also had Purrsian Blue and Kitten Around. Both were very small and with small pale blue flowers. I’ve chosen Neptune because the flowers are bigger and more intensely blue. It also has a more upright habit, I think. Sorry about the hand in the photo, I’ve used it for scale, it was the handiest thing.
