    Afties all. Errrm what was that I was saying about the 'Specials' board. My planned meal idea was scotched as soon as I saw what was on it. My meal today was swordfish with chips, broccoli, carrots and peas. I was so full after that I had no room for any dessert. We had a super catch up from our meal in May and are already planning next months outing.

    Hi folks, No unmentionables being done here, haven't even unpacked the case.  Had a  lovely nights sleep in my own bed and felt much better.  I've been in the garden for most of the day.  Have no idea what went on while I was away but it looked like I had been away for weeks instead of days.  Hubby mowed the lawns and I edged them.  I've  done some weeding and lots of deadheading.
    I emptied one of my bags of pots but was very disappointed.  One meals worth of good pots and a few that looked like burst balloons.  I've posted on the fruit and veg thread to see if anyone can help identify the problems.  If the other three bags are the same I doubt if I'd grow them again.  It's a shame as the beans, peas, radish, salad stuff, beetroot and carrots are all doing really well.

    Hi all sounds like you are having a good day. Went to allotment this morning then gardening all afternoon. Fiancé is out on his bike. While we were at the allotment we spotted a young blue tit badly tangled in netting luckily fiancé calmly untangled and freed it but people should be more careful I have emailed the chair of the allotment committee to alert her of the dangers. Poor thing was so exhausted it could barely fly away.
  • Debs so glad your fiancé could untangle the poor bird.   Wise of you to contact the chair regarding the netting.  LB I’ve had swordfish a few years ago.  I’m glad you had a good catch up.

    Evening everyone, it's been a beautiful sunny day today. We cut the grass and did some dead heading. I also trimmed a few bit off some off the shrubs that have finished flowering, after all that rain everything has gone mad. We then relaxed in the shade and ive only just come in. Didn't realise it was so late. OH is of course watching football 😂
    Glad you had a lovely day @Ladybird4
    Glad your OH enjoyed his 'pint' @Rubee 😉
    @Yviestevie glad you feel a bit better after a good night's sleep in your own bed.
    @Songbird-1 love the birthday pic
    @debs64 poor little bird glad your OH managed to free him.

    Have a lovely evening everyone

    Yvie, you cannot beat getting back to the comfort of your own bed. I haven't looked at my potatoes yet but one thing I do know is that they require a lot of water whilst growing to swell the tubers.
    Debs what lovely news about your Fiancé rescuing the little blue tit. I'm glad you have brought the use of netting to the attention of the allotment committee. It is so important to think about birds and even hedgehogs getting snagged up.
    SGL - big excitement for tomorrow. You and your OH will have a marvellous time.
    RosieBB, when Mum and Dad lived in Malta we used to eat it a lot. It is called pixxispad (pronounced pishi - spad) in Maltese.

    @Yviestevie, I went and looked at your potato thread. The burst balloon ones are the original potatoes that you planted. Did you feed them and keep them well watered? Maybe it was the variety. I've found that potatoes grow better in the ground.

    I've planted my new plants in the front garden, the laurel bed, the shade bed and the alpine slope. Took some time, I'm getting older, and ground elder had to be dug up. I've put grit around the plants in the alpine slope. Haven't started the long border yet. Needs weeding and 4 new plants.

    Thanks for that @Busy-Lizzie, I'd forgotten that the originals would still be there.  I have been watering them well, as for feed I bought some potato feed but I read on a web-site that you should only feed them when you plant them.  Should I have been doing this all along?
