I agree, it's down to the variety. I grow Rosella which has a nice degree of tartness and good tomato flavour - Gardener's Delight also has a good acid/sweet balance. I have grown the very popular Sungold, but for me they just seem too sweet with little actual taste.

The best tomatoes I have ever eaten were from my father in law. He was a dairy man and grew his tomatoes in almost pure manure and sand from his dairy barn
@Pete.8 Neither have I, hopefully in about 10/14 days' time, I'll have some Cherry Black ready. The others are way behind. (Planted outdoors). Bit of a weird Spring down here.
Wow @jamesholt What a bumper crop! I'm a tomato fan too: juice, sauces, on toast, tomato tart or just cut open, salt and pepper and a drizzle of olive oil!! I have planted a variety of colours this year rather than the straight reds! I'm being very patient!!
I've got one Stupice almost ready - the rest are a few weeks away yet - depending on the weather. It was so cold for so long here this spring everything is behind, though the recent heat waves and rain have caused everything the really start growing - especially the weeds. It so dull here today with rain and thunder later and a wet week ahead
