We had a few fluttering around last week but it's gone cooler again now. Hopefully if the weather is warmer next week there'll be a few more

Just saw a Red Admiral feasting on my Dianthus 'Sooty'.

First Red Admiral of the year seen here today, too.  Must be RA day! :D
It decided to feed right at the top of a deutzia and took this while standing on a garden chair from from a few feet away, so not the best focus:

Butterfly numbers in general are definitely down on last year in this neck of the woods.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

I think I saw a little brown job out of the corner of my eye today. It was near the about to bloom marjoram. There's hope yet!
    In London. Keen but lazy.

We haven't seen many, only a couple of Red Admirals. Definitely not as many as last year.

I see from a report from our local park that we currently have 26 identifed types. I don't know how they exactly differentiate between flutterbys and moths, but there we are. Reading this forum, 26 does not seem that much, but I guess it's decent for an urban space.

  • We've had a shortage of butterflies up till now but I came home from a night away today and the hebes are covered in clouds of small tortoiseshells. I think they must just have hatched. Lovely!

I've been pruning a very large bay tree today and little orange things fluttered out. I assume they were moths as they were lurking in the dark but I don't know
