You lot are very naughty. I have a friend of over 30 years,moans about anything and everything.Lockdowns,were a personal afront to her,she was like a sulky 4 year old. Interestingly,her kids live within 10 minutes, she could have been for walks with them,during lockdown. I thin k she's so grumpy,they stay away.she doesn't bother to help herself,no real hobbies.moaning like stink today,she bought a "ready meal"it was disgusting and watery. Eh yeah,that's why I cook from scratch,made crumble today with the last of the rhubarb, i always add a bit of ginger. Sunday lunch, daughter and grandkids,roast chicken, making chocolate cake topped with fresh strawberries
JWs once turned up at my old house when I lived there alone. I engaged the well dressed young lady with her young child in a religious debate about the existence of a god. It amused me greatly to see the young child nodding when I made a good point. The lady spotted it too and after a few such cases she couldn't wait to leave. I never had a doorstepper since.
Then many years later my partner and son were watching a group of doorsteppers in the road outside. They were discussing who was to go where and there was a definite point to our house. They all went off and both our house and next door who's front door was next to ours also got missed but everyone else got a visit.
That was probably over 10 years after I had the discussion. I take pride in the fact that JWs blackballed me for door knocking.
Largest Mormon tabernacle in Europe? Probably chorley one. I remember when they first opened. They had a period of time that locals could drop by and go on a tour through it all. Regret not taking advantage. Apparently the centre had an impressive gold plated statue of a bull I heard. Something to do with their religion.
I've got a link with Mormons, my ancestor led them to utah apparently. No Mormons in our family in living memory and a few generations further back. That's a made up religion by a conman too. It started as a con apparently.
Having said that all religion is about control but not the belief part the cultural part. Its the people in the hierarchy that use it for control. Power aspect within religious structures are the issue as it abuses the belief of the followers. I would reckon that the origins of religion was from a good place but like everything humans do exploitation kicks in.
From a political side a lot of political movements are similar in this. Communism had a good idea but negative practise kicked in as humans were involved. Unions started with a noble cause, did so much good but is now about greed and the power of large scale unions and union barons. That leads to labour party, good principles but like the unions became about power so did the Labour Party became about power, especially of the unions. Power could be substituted with control quite easily.
Bull as a symbol for any religion seems entirely appropriate to me. The very basic principals of all religions are broadly the same - treat other people as you would want to be treated. As with politics, it's when self interest, power and extremists get hold that everything goes to *****.
