    Presumably because optic is Greek for of sight/seeing/appearance etc, hence perception. 
    Bonkers though. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Whatever the origin, to me 'Woke' has come to mean a person who sees discrimination in everything and is unable to accept that anybody can have a valid opinion which doesn't match theirs.
  • To me, Wokeness means social justice, often going to ludicrous extremes, that has little effect on society.

    I just avoid the term. It seems to mean different things to different people, so it's pretty meaningless.

    I don't use the word as it is used pejoratively towards people who are aware of the injustices meted out to others through dint of their background/skin colour.

    I agree @didyw. It is like ‘do gooder’, a pejorative term, even though doing good is something which should be applauded.
