  • What would you suggest
  • Would you leave as is and see where the new growth comes from or take all dead wood off

The priority is to see if it's getting enough water.  Move the slate away and see what the soil is like underneath. You can sort the dead branches later

  • OK just checked The soil and is wet or damp to the touch I honestly think it wasn't getting enough water when I had it in the pot as on the trunk there is some splitting like little cracks

Keep it well watered and be patient, then. Some buds will appear, but they might be on the trunk. You'll have to decide if you want to keep them.
Don't worry about pruning until the live branches show a few leaves.

A bucket of water at least twice a week I'd say but you should feel the soil to test for dryness or overwatering  and bear in mind the weather too

  • Ok so the main tree is dead now but i have new growth i think at the base which is looking good what is best to do, cut old tree wood down to soil level and let the new growth grow, also how do i make it into a topiary tree

  • Do i need to cut all side shoots off as they grow and gust leave the top
  • Their are 2 main shoots i could plait them together if i knew how
