The instructions on the pack are there for a reason.  Now you know.

  • Thank you all for your suggestions but unfortunately I didn't measure anything out before use but as suggested in a YouTube video i walked up and down as it poured out but I think I used too much. I will wait and pray none of my plants have been killed in the process.
I am sure your plants will be okay, I am assuming you didn't shake it onto your borders and if you watered in well at the time then that should have mitigated the risk of it blowing off into your borders (which is where I am assuming the plants are). Honestly try not to worry too much :) it's grass, it can regrow. Chalk it up to gaining some new experience!
  • No I definitely didn't shake it into my borders but I did see a few go in. I'm not too worried about the grass but I do hope I didn't harm my other plants. Will just have to wait and see. I have most certainly learnt a lesson here especially since I thought they were magical grass seeds I was sprinkling all over the place  :#  Now I know seeds were not included in the 4 in 1 deal  :D

If you do need to reseed you’ll need to wait a few weeks as the weedkiller element in the 4in1 type treatments usually contain a pre-emergent herbicide that will prevent seeds, including grass seeds, from germinating.
It should say somewhere on the label.

  • I will wait to reseed for sure. I am attaching some photos so you can see exactly what I'm dealing with. Forgive my over hacked lavender that was again completely my fault for pruning too soon in February.

That's definitely due to uneven patchy application. Give it some time to see if you get regrowth, then rake out any dead stuff and reseed bare patches. For next time, it's better to under-dose than overdose and you can always add more.
I don't use that kind of lawn treatment much any more, but when I did I found it much easier to get it on thinly and evenly if I sprinkled it by hand (disposable plastic gloves are a good idea). Plus you can then buy a cheaper product that comes in a cardboard box without the fancy applicator. The worst dosing I ever got was the time I used one of those wheeled spreader applicators.

If it's any consolation you aren't the only one to have had problems with 4 in 1 although mine is the opposite to you.  I do use a spreader and thought the 4 in 1 was dry as it poured into the hopper OK.  It was only when I went to pour the unused 4 in1 back into the bag I discovered it was damp and had basically formed a solid lump in the spreader.  I have no idea how much of the lawn actually got the required amount before it got all gummed up.  I'll just have to wait a couple more weeks to see if anything changes.

I most definitely overdosed but I think next time I'll leave it to the professionals. I'm very new to gardening and have totally fallen involve with it especially during lockdown. I will make sure I do my research next time because this passion aint cheap and I may have just cost myself a new lawn  :| First rule of gardening is to have patience and so I'll wait and won't rush with reseeding.
Thank you for all your help and guidance  :)

If you ever need to do it again just follow @Dovefromabove's advice for measuring and spreading the product and use the dosage advised on the pack.  It's a simple process and won't cost as much as paying professionals.

For now, water then wait and see for a couple of weeks then use a spring tined rake to remove the blackened moss and weeds.  Then, if you have bare patches, use an ordinary rake to loosen the soil surface then sow fresh seed.  There'll be instructions on the pack.
