When I actually met Phillip in the mid '80's, he simply came across as a small man surrounded by security without much to say. To be fair, IME most "famous" people are usually the same when doing the "tour".  Difficult to act naturally under such circumstances but it just goes to show that Royal or Celeb or WHY, they are just people - much the same as us.
I imagine should Philip undergo a PM, there will be little difference to be found compared  to anyone else of his age - certainly not blue blood  ;)
He is no more of a loss to the UK as a whole than many others - his family will grieve much the same as any other family which have lost a relative.  It isn't world shattering - except for the news channels of course - something to take over from the rather boring Covid statistics.

I'm not a royalist.  I'm sure the royal family will be devastated by Philips death but he had a good life and lived to a ripe old age.  Many people aren't so lucky.  Everyone will have their own opinion but I hope it doesn't turn into some sort of slanging match on here.  Lets just all agree to disagree.  It will be interesting to see what they do re his funereal though.
Hi from Kingswinford in the West Midlands
  • Good grief.the man has died and all of you seem to want to comment negatively !
    I'm fairly indifferent TBH.

I doubt it's worth a slanging match - those who knew the deceased certainly have the right to mourn - the rest of us can just have a thought and be sad if we feel it appropriate,
As to the funeral..........I think it is still limited to 30 mourners outside at present.  Perhaps the rules will change in this particular circumstance altho there shouldn't be any change unless it is nationwide.

I have to admit I went over to Google his name as I wasn't sure which one Phillip was.

That made me smile @Loxley -if only evidence that not all of us are Royal/Celeb mad these days :D
