@Chivetalking don’t mind you asking at all. She has an appt with a knee specialist at Bham children’s hospital in July. She also has an appt re her elbow. A few years ago she tripped on the lawn and made a real mess of her elbow joint.  It took an operation and a pioneer method of wiring it back together.  It has started causing problems and they are looking at giving her injections. She has said the pain isn’t too bad and she would rather put up with it at the moment. So we will wait and see what the outcome of the appt is.

Chive, quite a few hardy geraniums would be happy in a spot like that. Snow stopped and sun reappeared so I've risked the wet cloth things on the whirlygig. Naturally the sun has now gone in and the black clouds are rolling in again. Typical. I might have to make a quick dash or three.
Wildlifer - totally brilliant! Thanks for letting us know. Yes, I would be up for a discreet little tattoo on a shoulder or ankle. I used to use the temporary tattoos (chicken!) when I was younger and partying. I had a bar code on my upper arm and a red rose on my left ankle. I can't be doing with people who judge others like that when they don't even know them.
p.s. forgot to say, I looked at every possibility (thanks SGL), picked the cheapest that gave me the cover I wanted  and got my insurance sorted at last.
p.p.s. poor wee Merri has had to put up with such a lot Yvie. I do hope that they can find something that will help on a more permanent basis.

Totally missed Chive's post about planting under the Sambucus...

It's really deep shade under mine in the summer when the shrub itself plus surrounding plant are in full leaf. From leaf fall to May it's partial shade.

I grow (successfully!) hardy geraniums as per LB's suggestion. The ground coverer G. Cantabrigiense "Biokovo" (sp!) is happy in those conditions as are phaeums. Hardy cyclamen (both coum and hederifolium) are happy and brunnera "Looking Glass" does very well.

I found the dark leaves of the "Black Lace" a little oppressive towards late summer so there's a Group 3 clematis climbing up through it which seems to work. I chose "Prince Charles" and the pale blue small flowers look nice against the black leaves. Quite fancy putting a pale pink one in as well....
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

Thank you @Yviestevie, she is such a brave little soul dealing with all these issues. Fingers are crossed for the appointment in July and the one for her elbow, how astonishing they could operate & wire it back together!. It would just be nice to think they could help improve things for her.
Wildlifer You must have a real artistic flair, I struggle to use an icing bag there’s no way I’d attempt that 😀
Hazel I can imagine the Blackbirds loving getting stuck into your newly laid soil 😉
LB Thank you for the suggestion of using a Hardy Geranium, that would be a really good idea to have in that area something for the bees to enjoy too,
Topbird Thank you very much i’ll have a look at those, good to know what has worked for you in a similar situation. I certainly wouldn’t have thought of growing a Clematis up the shrub itself, food for thought 🤔
Hope you all have a nice evening.

Goodnight Hazel, get some well earned rest I hope OH is feeling ok.
@Topbird Sold on the G. Cantabrigiense “Biokovo” what a beauty and I can see how that would compliment the Sambucca perfectly 😊

Hi all just checking in. Friday was an absolutely dreadful day, our new bosses have cut pay for locum pharmacists so we tend to get young inexperienced people who are very slow causes a backlog and angry customers and we bear the brunt of it. Add to that the issues we always have after a bank holiday and it was a nightmare.
Really glad to have a week off with many good things planned.
Had a quick read back you have all been busy as usual. Nice to see some new faces. I have no issue with tattoos, my fiancé has lots and he is the sweetest man I know. All my sons have them too. I wouldn’t judge anyone for what is a purely personal choice.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, nowadays a great number of us are actually fine artists.
Long gone are the days of bikers and badly done seaside tattoos. I’ve had paintings in galleries in Covent Garden and Manhattan!

But tattooing is a real love of mine and I feel it’s the modern medium.

Anyway, busy day with more decking/cladding and digging. Rained off briefly but back to it, more tomorrow, and hopefully some time to plant some yellow flag iris ive had delivered to :)

    sleep well everyone x
