Some of us like the old ways and words too and get very curmudgeonly about what we see as language misuse but yes, English is quick to find or invent or re-assign a word to suit the need of the moment, especially in science, medicine and technology.

The one that really annoys me is ' flammable ' which had to be changed when morons would read 'highly inflammable' on a drum of something and assume it was safe to light up a fag.
