Afternoon all, it was up to 8c by 10 am so warm enough to walk for the paper. Chilly wind though. It's turned colder since and we've a brief snow flurry before lunch and now have sunshine but it's not quite warm enough to entice me out again apart from refilling the bird feeders. I've left the fleece on over the wisteria, might be a mistake as it's quite breezy out there. @floralies We had water-resistant laminate laid when we moved into here 14 years ago - kitchen/dining room and both bathrooms. I dislike old floorboards (too draughty) and ceramic tiles (too cold and hard). I think it was guaranteed for 15 years (Ikea) and it's still going strong. I only mop it over with a microfibre pad though. The only disadvantage is in the dining room where it's faded in the strong sunlight through the French doors but our floor chappie said that would happen with real wood floors anyway.
@Lizzie27 modern floorboards - in Belgium and France anyway - are tongue and groove so no draughts.Β Β I oiled mine and could just clean them with a damp cloth too between vaccuum cleans if needed.
That's good to know Obelixx, ours were old (1960's) with quite big gaps between them and also a suspended floor with 2-3 ft of space underneath in the front of the house so definitely draughty. I do like the look of old floorboards in old houses as it would be madness to cover them up but wouldn't want to live with them.
I've just panicked in case we get a bad frost here overnight, ran round the garden and bubblewrapped both outside taps again.Β Then I got the plastic bell cloches out Id forgotten about and put them over new shoots of peony, delphinium, astrantia, a delicate small Jap.Anemone and a knautia macedonia I moved just last week. I also covered over my Asparagus Bed (I live in hope Obelixx) and quickly erected a pop-up fleece tunnel over the potato bed where we wanted to plant next week. Phew, I'm exhausted, sitting down now with a glass of Pinot while dinner cooks. Β What's the betting of no frost tomorrow???
Flipping freezing today. Spent my day off reviewing my plant stock (Gosh ...789 in the Greenhouses) and trying to come up with a planting plan,Β never done one before.Β Graph paper,Β lists of plants with height/spread...it's like A level physics lol!! Redeveloping a large area, 60m2 to make a memory for my Mum and late dog Tula; pond andΒ seating area. Got some lovely Gladioli Tula, a unusal lime green. As the area is not ready yet i've planted them in pots, has anyone experience of doing this?
Tucked up in bed with a podcast ... snow blowing around in the light of the street lamps ... hope for something better tomorrow .., night night folks π₯±Β
