The digital Brennan thermometer I recommended upthread is still going strong after 4 years. It only cost £12.

Here's an alternative that I've used for a couple of years ORIA 2 Pack Wireless Thermometer Hygrometer, [Upgraded 35m Range] Mini Bluetooth 5.0 Humidity Temperature Sensor with Data Export for iOS Android, Alarm Push Notifications for Greenhouse, Christmas https://amzn.eu/d/gVzoyYv

I've also invested in wifi versions, smart plugs etc to enable remote monitoring and control of the greenhouse

Useful. Thanks. I have have Brannan hygrometers around the house and find them very useful. They seem a solid brand.

We've had this one for at least 10 years. There's an identical one bearing the Brannan name on Amazon, and is also available in green.

We had one of the above and it lasted a good 11 years … its replacement (same sort) lasted until the first heavy rainstorm 😢

Brannan here too. Mine have lasted for years - hope I haven’t jinxed them now!

In my GH I rely on an old-fashioned 100% Mercury thermometer, no idea how old. It marks the highest and lowest temps and is easy to reset when needed. And there's nothing to go wrong !

  • To all the people with their Brannans...are they just generic far eastern made devices with just a fancy badge? Surely can't be much more nowadays...like the nasty plastic watering cans that Haws makes...just milking the heritage perception for whoever long they can.

I'm happy to pay extra for a company that manufactures its own goods but it's such a rarity all else is just a money grab and I go straight to the white label product maker without the branding tax.

Haws still make lovely metal cans, and they are still made in the U.K.

    Brannan say

"Brannan is a leading British manufacturer and supplier of thermometers and measuring devices... We are committed to British manufacturing from our base in the north west UK."

Does "We are committed to British manufacturing" mean "we don't do much manufacturing in Britain any more but we like the idea"?

I personally do not buy unbranded electronics as they usually end up in the bin. I choose a named, known company with a long guarantee, hopefully one that is committed to repair their own products.

Some of their technology is made in an English factory, for sure.

I've had a Brannan hygrometer for ten years and it's never had a glitch or a problem. Works for me.
