LB - I really don't know but would guess that the timing of the boat race has much to do with college term and exam dates. Crews need to have been together for a while to form a proper team - so you can't have it at the beginning of the academic year. Anything into May starts to conflict with exams, revision timetables, dissertation deadlines etc etc and by June they've all cleared off for the holidays....
Talking out the back of my head there but it makes sense to me🤣 Probably far more to do with tradition and the London 'season'.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
That does make absolute sense T'Bird. Thanks for that. Usually the Grand National is a week after the Boat Race so I wonder if that will be going ahead. I know horse racing has been going on so I guess it will be - but minus the crowds.

Gorgeous sunshine and blue skies here but gosh it’s cold! Hoping the fire pit means people can sit outside suitably wrapped up. House is tidy and cleaner than usual. Housework is never my highest priority and at this time of year I usually do the bare minimum.Â
Hi folks, It's lovely and sunny here but the wind is bitterly cold. I've no idea whether we had any frost or early snow flurries as I didn't wake up until 10.00.Â
I've been to Ashwoods and picked up a couple of grow bags for the toms and cues and also bought a new obelisk for a rambling rose that I want to encourage onto the fence. A pretty little viola and a bleeding heart also slipped onto the trolley.Â
Had to water the pots this morning and top up the pond, we haven't had rain for ages and the water butt is empty. Not planning on anything this afternon. All that baking sounds lovely.
It will right itself Hazel, just cover it lightly with compost. I've been busy in the greenhouse this afternoon and have just finished outside by filling up the peanut feeders. That is me done for today. Two lots of Mastermind tonight as well as Uni Chall. That will be brain activity sorted.
Ante, I just learned something today whilst reading the programme lists. It is 100 years since Poirot first appeared in literary form. I had no idea it was so long ago.

We did well. Managed just over an hour in the garden. It was freezing. We had tea then the cheesecake. It went down a treat. By the time I got back in the house, I could not feel my toes and I was very windswept. Worth every second to spend a bit if time with my friends. It has been so long.
Thats what gave me the heads up Hazel when I mentioned I was going through the programme lists. Fascinating stuff.
PR I know how you feel. I will be going to my Bestie's again this Thursday and my Sunday trips to see rellies have been reinstated. It hasn't got any warmer than 6°C here today. Saw a lot of big, fat bees bumbling about and the whole pheasant contingent was in the garden too.
