I'm enjoying Allium sphaerocephalon, now in full flower. They are small flowers, like pine cones, and have minimal foliage so will die back fairly neatly. The bees go nuts for them.

Oh yes! Thanks for reminding me about these, I forgot they were also allium… In fact, I also planted these … I think I planted around 30 bulbs… only about 5 have made an appearance. They were planted in the garden where the clay soil is the wettest /heaviest.

@Mariam_86 I think all mine have come up (Sarah Raven). I put them in a fairly small pot at the last minute in spring. To get to them to return, I might have to plant them into sandy soil. I haven't grown summer allium before and I am taken with these, esp the delicate foliage. They remind me of sweets, raspberries or lollies. Or something.

I like the delicate foliage too. I can’t remember where I bought mine from but they were very small bulbs. I planted them behind some rabbit tail / lagurus ovatus. The rabbits tail all came up… but being a total novice, I went and “thinned” them out too much (I took the growing instructions way too literally)… and now I have a sparse patch with a few allium heads and a few rabbits tail plants! Totally kicking myself for thinning them out. Oh well.. all part of the learning journey.

I’ve grown alliums this year for the first time.

I’m waiting for them to flower but it looks like there are going to be lots. I’d forgotten I had it until I looked behind one of my nepeta the other day.

    Millennium.

@Ditsy I can't really take credit for the design, I pinched it off of Pinterest 😂 They'd used paving rather than gravel but the shape of the beds and the three trees, totally not my own design! I'm actually looking to get lots of more pots of plants in around the edges of the beds. I've seen a number of small gardens on here that are so lush and green despite using containers and I'm so jealous. Think I might also put some stepping stones in next year, the gravel isn't ideal!
I know the exact garden you're talking about lol! Hey if it works it works, and it looks great!

@pitter-patter. What a beautiful and well organised garden. I love the pathway too.  :)
