I've not bothered to read 6 pages of I am sure scintillating discussion on scissors vs secateurs. I will only say that I could not cut my finger off with my scissors but I could with the secateurs and I could not cut a piece of paper with secateurs but I can with scissors.
AND I got ID'ed last time I was in the UK and bought a spade. a standard garden spade, it is apparently classed as a edged weapon. to be honest if I wanted to hurt you with a spade I would use it as a blunt weapon rather than try to cut you with it.. but maybe I just don't sharpen mine enough!
In my native language, scissors, chicken scissors, secateurs, loppers and other similar tools are all called scissors. And because your native language affects how you think about things, in my brain, secateurs are a type of scissors. Now what?
