..well, I've just ordered the potted version of Nye Bevan as they've now removed the bare root option completely... I still got a 10 percent discount using REFRESH ..
@celcius_kkw Here are some photos of Silas. It was very inconsistent in its first year but I think it has great potential. The fragrance is one of my favourites, strong, old rose base but with much more to it, I remember it quite complex. According to the DA website "medium-strong Old Rose fragrance with accents of fruity lemon, green banana and apricot"... I guess that it could be I would agree with a mix of old rose and fruity. On its best days, it's as strong as Gertrude Jekyll and stronger than PAoK but on some days it's weaker, so medium-strong sounds correct. Last year, out of my DA newbies, I liked it slightly more than Gabriel Oak. I've never smelled Boscobel. But I think it will get too big for a pot, eventually. I don't know if it can be kept smaller. Maybe with some kind of support, to prevent the wide arching growth.
@Marlorena Sounds like CP’s scent is a bit forgettable then... how does it compare with Vanessa Bell? I liked Vanessa Bell’s scent from my previous visit.. more so than the poet’s wife / golden celebration despite the latter being described as strongly fragrant while VB was rated ‘medium’
By the way most people that I know seemed to feel the side effect of the jab day after.. nothing major, it ranged from fever and aches to a sore arm like you said. Most people recover within a day too.
@edhelka That reads as excellent rating with regards to its scent to me. Beautiful photos and thanks for sharing. I must say it does remind me of some of the roses I already have looks wise.. namely GJ, Sceptr’d isle and queen of Sweden.
@Mr. Vine Eye I'm so sad to hear this especially after all your hard work there. I swear some adults are more delinquent than teenagers. There really is no need for it. Hopefully you will find space for everything in your garden. I wouldn't leave them a blade of grass.
@Marlorena lucky you lol I actually had a colleague question me when I went for mine which was amusing. Arm was agony but apart from that I was fine. Husband had the Oxford and was in bed all day after it. I get my second one in two weeks.
@celcius_kkw ..Adrian.. well I always thought Poet's Wife had the best scent of them all there, but everyone is different... VB is nice most of the time, about half strength TPW, but midsummer can smell a bit musty. The CP is scented, but not as much as TPW for me, but may get stronger with age, it was only 1st year... it's the thorns, I'm not sure I'd like to deal with a potted The CP when it gets large..
..thanks for info re jab... I had an aching arm for half hour and strangely some numbness in my hand which made typing awkward, but gone now.. I've been out in the garden for the last hour..
@poppyfield64 ... yeah I had Oxford, I think that's all their giving out now.. Sorry about your arm, hopefully it won't happen after 2nd jab.. I don't want to be poorly tomorrow as I've got a busy day in the garden putting all these perennials in..

Those are beautiful photos @edhelka
@edhelka - 2nd time in a row I've regretted not getting Silas!
Maybe next year
