...anyway @Nollie ..I hope you get it, by all accounts, mistaken or otherwise, it's an outstanding rose... I've just planted Aimee Vibert, mainly because it's thornless...
@Marlorena I had Snow Goose in my last garden in Kent. It failed to thrive until I moved it to a hot spot where it was sheltered by a south facing garage wall which it absolutely loved and didn’t seem to mind the very light free draining soil there. It wasn’t the earliest to flower in my garden but once it started it never really stopped until late November/early December. It’s the only rose I’ve ever grown which never showed any trace of black spot - nice shiny little leaves. Very pretty neat flowers. To my nose only a mild but pleasant scent. I’ve found a photo from several years ago.
@Jemula ...thanks so much for that, I was hoping you would look in as I thought you might have had this rose at some point.. it looks quite happy there in your picture... I'm interested in it because it's slightly tender, as i think you found out there, and I'm always interested in roses like that.. I don't want anything over vigorous.. ..I have it in my DA 'basket' currently... many thanks ..
..just to answer Mr Vine Eye's question earlier.. these are my experiences of the following..
Trevor White's .. best quality, without question... quick to ship.. TW's potted roses are also very good now, I like their smaller, manageable pots.. but they need to be planted sooner..
Cottage Memories.. I've only used once for bare roots, and they compare to TW above, and are cheaper too.. I've heard good reports about them for some years now... no idea why I haven't used them before to be honest..
Style Roses/Fragrant Rose Co. - good for quality, not always the type of roses I go for though. Very quick to ship..
R. V. Roger - very good quality bare root roses with a choice of Grade A or B [cheaper], but sometimes long delays in receiving them.
C and K Jones, very good the only time I've used them for bare roots..
David Austin... not always the best quality despite the claims but they do offer a 5 year guarantee, and they may be the only place offering the rose you want. Potted roses are the best though, always beautifully presented..
Peter Beales - not quite the force it was... I'm no longer confident about what I'm going to get, quality wise.. but like above, they may be the only supplier of the rose you want... Good for potted summer roses, as they come from Wharton's, a wholesaler..
Harkness Roses, not the best quality bare roots in my limited experience with them, but adequate if you want a specific Harkness rose not available elsewhere..
Eastcroft Roses,.. root pruned, body bag type bare root roses, but they grow well and not to be afraid of, but it's a bit of a surprise when you receive them..
@Mr. Vine Eye - how about we rosaphiles get together and go up to your allotment and have a word with your thugs? We could put it out on Twitter and get a fair army of very unimpressed gardeners wielding bamboo canes, dibbers and pointy plant labels. I'm not sure it's an experience the thieves would ever forget. They wouldn't be able to look at courgette ever again without wincing.
Thank you for all that everyone, very helpful. I’ve written it down! They’ve got one that I was looking for at Cottage Memories.
Will still wait for new releases though. I have little space, and would have just ordered anyway thinking, “well any extra can go to the plot,” but that’s obviously in doubt now!
@edhelka and @Marlorena, yes I have trawled through the extensive debate on HMF regarding the confusion/origins, but actually more interested in the habit and fragrance of the rose than the academic debate! It’s definitely the Colonial White (renamed/sold in commerce as) Sombreuil version I am interested in. @Omori, that’s very helpful, thanks!
Roses Loubert distinguishes between and sells both Mlle. de Sombreuil (Tea, Roberts 1851, to 1.2m) and Sombreuil (large flowered climber, 3m, ‘very fragrant’) but still attributes the latter to Roberts, 1850. No idea if the former is the original tea or not, possibly another confusion.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
With a few hours to spare this weekend and still mildish I was going to start my pruning, but with the 'Beast' imminent and with us for a week or so would it be better to hold off 'til it passes.

@celcius_kkw - yes I liked Fire’s post too 😁
