  • @peteS - I usually do Valentine's Day or just after, which should skip the cold weather.

My Gabriel Oak ones that looked so promising are dead!

What seems to work for me so far, is stick them in a well drained pot in a sheltered spot outside and leave them there. No rooting powder or anything.

My Generous Gardener cutting was accidental and at the wrong time of year but it’s definitely alive, showing signs of new growth.

    They thrive on neglect.

The ones I put effort into die!

  • Hi rose lovers, I'm new to roses and to the forum, I was wondering if anyone has ordered from Cottage Memories and if the roses were good? I've caught the bug pretty badly and am thinking about ordering around 20 roses from them  :D
  • @EllieRose Look one page back, we were just having this discussion! 😁

In summary - yes  Cottage Memories is good 🙂

  • @Mr. Vine Eye Oops! Thank you, I went back a couple of pages and had a look, that is great to hear because I was a little worried that the price might be too good to be true. I received an awful order from JParkers, they were literally covered in black spot and mildew and some of them were so bad that they went straight into the bin! They do say buy cheap buy twice...
  • @Mr. Vine Eye Your theory of cuttings thriving on neglect probably have some truth to it.. all my cuttings have failed to date but my partner literally stuck a random rose stem from a bouquet in a pot outside and left it to its own devices and it survived!

Speaking of cuttings.. I will be pruning my roses in the next week or so and will inevitably end up with lots of ‘cuttings’ - but I read that the most successful cuttings are from late spring or late summer.. is it worth using these old canes for cuttings in late winter.. ?
  • @celcius_kkw - you can take hardwood cuttings anytime during winter dormancy.
