@Ergates. I’ve never seen that donkey cut in the field don’t think it was at the donkey sanctuary when I went.
I love the sing song going on there.

I did leave some in, some were scoffed by slugs.i didn't expect the tubers to be this big,but they were in metal pots that are rotten. Hubby asked me to show you all this Bath bun,the Chelseas, and buns and rolls,(pick your filling) were equal size. I said a family of four could share them. Went shopping the other side of town, for next years diary. January cut and blow dry the first entry!!I agree Hosta. My first hubby and I lived in a caravan for 5 years,(after private renting a couple of rooms, shared bathroom,in London. No holidays, days out,no car. It formed the deposit for our first house. When the mortgage rate went from 12 to 18% in 1983 we moved to a cheaper area. We've always had "doer uppers" last place we didn't have central heating till mid two thousand we downsized 10 years ago, after our daughter left home,to a 2 bedroom bungalow, cheaper area.

For many elderly people living in comparative modest homes e.g. 3 bed semi-detached, there is little to no financial advantage in trying to downsize.  My neighbours looked at the possibility and looked for 2 bedroom bungalows, of which there are many in this area.  After all the fees involved in a move, plus any required updating to the bungalow, they would have had very little 'profit' from the sale.  The upheaval outweighs the financial benefit.  They stayed put until they died in the last couple of years.

Round here a bungalow can be priced at more than a house with twice the number of bedrooms. Out of curiosity I just looked at Rightmove. The top two entries for this area are a detached 4-bedroom house and a detached 2-bedroom bungalow, very close to one another, similar sized small gardens. The bungalow is £20k more expensive. Makes it hard to consider downsizing unless you need to for accessibility, and even then a stairlift is probably the less expensive option.

RTBC my OH turned 60 this week and has just collected his first free prescription. It was a case of get it free or lie about his age, even though he can afford to pay. He'll most likely donate £120 to charity at the end of the year.

RTBC #2 For OH's birthday we took ourselves down the road to Yorkshire Wildlife Park yesterday. My new favourites are the red pandas.

    I love red pandas!
Having a very good day here. Just back from both of us being double jabbed, booster plus flu jab. Stopped at the supermarket next door and picked up some treats to eat after a very late lunch. Nothing as impressive as that Bath bun though, Nanny Beach!

Jennyj I love the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Do you still have to book online first, or can you just turn up at the gates, like you could pre-covid?

  • My wife has this thing about alpacas. We'd go to this place "Paradise Park" in Cornwall every year we went there on holiday. They had a lot of them as well as many other animals  including red pandas and birds.

This was the last time,   from thirteen years ago.

I took a lot of photos of them and presented her with an "Alpaca Album" as one of her Christmas presents.

We used to joke about getting one and keeping it in the shed and how I could put little baskets on its side and she could take it down to the village and bring the shoppping home in them.

Sadly she'll never be well enough again for us to go back to see them.

Ergates,it's a beast isn't it,8 inches. We couldn't have afforded a bungalow where we used to live
Just over the magic Surrey border.moved just 35 miles to East Sussex. The bungalows here have a much bigger plot, hence the price. We couldn't have afforded a bungalow where we used to live, but we didn't want to be there, anyway. The 2 bedroom houses here, had 30 foot back gardens, and are usually terraced Had our fill of selfish, noisy neighbours. We were both working 10 years ago so could afford the doing up,all of which apart from the drive and double glazing were done by us,(hubby mostly haha)
