    Giving ..............Charles Dowdings calendars.

Receiving.... hopefully........enough patience to listen to my neighbours who insist on telling me how bad things are.

Im either in or at the shops or at Lottie most of the day working in the fresh air keep[ing my social distance.

Everyone is just trying to be Happy.....So lets help Them.
  • I wonder how many forum members may recall this seasonal memo.

He's the little boy that Sants Claus forgot.
And goodness knows, he didn't want a lot.

He wrote a note to Santa for some soldiers and a gun.
He broke his little heart, when he found Santa hadn't come.

I feel sorry for that laddie, who hasn't got a Daddy.

That little boy, that Santa Claus forgot.

Breaks my heart @Mike Allen  thinking there's going to be children not getting presents this year. It's been an even worse year for those already going short.
I had quite a few toys i'd bought for the two grandchildren i looked after two days a week, all new unopened toys,so when the salvation army put out an appeal i gladly gave them all i had. They only took brand new toys though which has left me with a little girls bike, used twice, that is now sitting in my garage when i know somewhere there's someone who would appreciate it. It's finding that person...
  • @Klink ...
put the bike on Freegle, Freecycle or Nextdoor.com
    😊

Thing with that @Dovefromabove is someone will take it,sell it on and it may not go to someone who would really appreciate it.
I'll maybe try the womens refuge although it's maybe a bit late.I gave them the toddler bed i had when it became clear that my grandkids wouldn't be staying over anymore.I know that that was very much appreciated.

We have a community FB page - I don't use Facebook for anything else - and there are often appeals for bikes, support for vulnerable families etc.  If you have something similar in your community perhaps you could use it to get the item to a child in need?

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view) i'm not on any social media site apart from this one, certainly not facebook. I came off that many years ago when it seemed to be the place  for collecting pretendy friends!
  • 🤔  the Nextdoor.com is very local and people register under their real names, our neighbours all know that we received a compost bin from a person three streets away.

Also, if someone’s finances are in such a state that they can spend time and effort to do up and sell on a toy or piece of unwanted furniture, then that’s benefiting someone less well off than me, so I don’t see a huge problem there.

And some folk’s mental health can really benefit from a hobby like doing up stuff and selling it on (it pays for the materials, usually not a huge profit).

There’s more than one way to benefit others by passing on something we don’t need 😊

I was shocked at first when I realised people were taking stuff from Freecycle to sell on ebay.  But on reflection, I doubt it's making anyone rich.  At least it's honest, and it's a lot better than the things some people do to make ends meet.  Loan sharks, begging, theft, prostitution, drug dealing.
