Afternoon All, been for a walk to the PO had a belated gift to send so I hope it will arrive before the New Year. Ante That is awful so sorry to hear the news about the earthquake, my heart goes out to those poor people. Relieved to know you and your family are all ok, it really has been a rotten year, Chey, that’s a lovely snowy scene I hope both you & Luco are tucked up in the warm, Yvie So pleased to hear Merri has her appointments come through, my fingers are crossed that everything goes ahead as planned.
LB I also watched the tribute on the beeb so many. Jacks holiday sounds lovely. Chive I went back to bed for a few hours and feel more rested. Ante I’m glad to hear you and your pets are all okay. We have woken up to snow this morning, but it’s quite sunny and it may melt. Hazel thank you for the gw alert. Yvie good to hear about Merri’s scheduled appointments after so many being cancelled.
Thanks for the headsup about GW Hazel. My Bestie has an electronic piano. Not portable unfortunately but we do have fun on it at party time. I learned the piano many years ago Hazel but I think my arthritic fingers might struggle to get a span of an octave + 2 that I used to be able to do.

Ante - so sorry to hear about your neighbours being flooded and also the dreadful earthquake. Thoughts are with your beautiful country.
Slightly jealous of those of you who have snow. It's very cold here but just grey and bleurgghhh. At least the white stuff looks pretty.
LB - glad to hear Jack had a good time. Has the wandering puss cat turned up yet? Fingers crossed he's not packed his bags again.
Hazel - we very recently bought a smart speaker which is Alexa enabled. Having a lot of fun telling her to find various internet radio stations we like to listen to. If you add Simple Radio to the skills and then say "Alexa - ask Simple Radio to play Radio Swiss Classic" you'll be able to hear some beautiful classical music without any adverts or prattling DJ's.
We also invested in about 8 smart plugs (Teckin sold by Amazon) which we've linked to the speaker with lamps and Christmas lights plugged into them.
Love saying "Alexa - Good Evening" and she turns on all the lights. "Alexa - Good Night" and she turns them all off. We can also set security lighting routines if we're away or turn lights on from a phone if we're still out and about when it's getting dark. Easy once you get in the swing of it.
On the minus side she can also be fired up if the TV's on and F1 commentators are talking about the driver Alex Albon....
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Hello T'Bird. Yes, wandering puss cat is at home. She just hid from me and after her 4 year wander, I'm not altogether surprised. All is back to normal once more - well as normal as it can be in these times. I must just regale you with a funny story I heard from handy brother. His next door neighbour has an Alexa and a very loud voice. Handy brother overheard the following.
'Alexa, can you turn the sound up? Alexa can you turn the sound up? Alexa are you f*****g stupid!' I think I have told this tale before but it does beg the question who was the real 'stupid' item there. Handy brother thought it was hilarious and is rather pleased that she is moving out shortly.

It is a great sadness to me that I didn’t learn to play a musical instrument or even learn to read music .My consolation is listening classical and some modern music .My uncle played the piano and one of our nieces can play most instruments .I hope all is quiet where you are Ante .More snow is forecast here in the next few hours
Both my daughters had piano and guitar lessons and one now plays regularly accompanying the church choir. However, I wasted my childhood on learning about birdies & pars, offspinners and googlies, volleys and smashes and generally running around chasing balls of various sizes
The first musical instrument I learned to play was the recorder, followed by the piano and finally the violin. I preferred being outside though and enjoyed, hockey and swimming. Once I started working I started playing squash and badminton competitively and did those two sports for many years. I don't reckon the old bones would be able to cope with those any more. As well as being a rugby fan I used to go to cricket matches which I also enjoyed - especially when the weather was nice. When I visited my Aussie family we used to go to the favourite watering hole of the barmy army
