After poking about, and X ray of teeth, the air thing, made me jump, she said there is decay behind that filling it's been in 45 plus years, BUT is large, she said they may not be able to save the tooth
  • Earache and Toothache are two of the worse pains, apart from childbirth!😁

@the tidy gardener    Oh well, although if it were me, I would go carefully and try to get even a little wax out just to relieve the pressure.  Surely, the nurse can't expect you to suffer for another 2 weeks with just a painkiller!  And if there is no infection, why antibiotics ?

  • They gave me antibiotics after a telephone consultation. I guess they thought that would do .it wouldve saved the NHS 2 appointments and me some time and pain if it was just open as normal and I couldve had someone look in my ear.

It's obvious that when you are in bed, you seem to dislodge it and the pain isn't as bad at night.  You may have to walk around for 2 weeks with your head on one side!!!

PS  You could try massaging (with a little oil) the are just behind your ear.

@the tidy gardener It's your ear but I'd recommend not trying to remove the wax with a syringe or poking anything in there.  There is a very good chance of compacting even more and making the problem worse.

I once went to have an ear syringed before the wax had been softened by oil and it just made it far worse in the short term. It felt full , painful, I could hardly hear out of it and it was ringing, added I felt disoriented. I oiled it for a week or so and they got it out easily.

I used to go every year or so but then turned to otex, it does work within 4 days for me. It does feel itchy using it but I think this is just the reaction with the wax as it stops itching as much once the wax softens.

I personally would use olive oil on a night and otex in the morning so as if it does cause discomfort you aren't losing sleep. That being said I appreciate a medical professional has advised against it for you, so they may see it as being wrong in your instance. The olive will work alone,  the hard part is putting up with the discomfort until it starts working.
