Morning all. I'm off to the SM soon, need milk, veg etc.
I hope things pick up for you @D0rdogne_Damsel, but isn't winter usually rather slow? In the touristy places by the Dordogne river most places make their livings in Summer, some even shut in winter. It must be so hard to plan but Covid makes it so much worse.
I've just been reading in a French online newspaper article about travelling funfairs. They are quite popular in France. They are now forbidden to open in towns with a high incidence of Covid and they are really struggling to make ends meet.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Give us a wave from Black Down @chicky, the murk is lifting a bit. It is a favourite spot for a fungal foray - chanterelles and hedgehog mushrooms, yum!
I find the complacency very worrying @Pat E. When I'm out each day, I seem to be one of the very few people concerned about keeping a distance. I'm well aware that the risk when outdoors, and when walking past someone, is minimal, but it's just that look of 'why are you moving away' that people seem to have. Yesterday was unbelievable. It was Sunday and a nice day. I don't know if that's got something to do with it. The people who have only started going out for walks recently. Some people are just rude and thoughtless anyway, of course, even when there isn't a virus. Murky and damp here, and a fair bit of rain overnight, but I'll get out soon. Avoiding indoor jobs is what I'm very good at

Morning all, Those cakes look fab, I especially like the idea of a snickers cake. Will probably be popping out to Dunelm Mill in a minute with Bestie. She needs some new bedding so I thought I'd tag along. No particular plans for the rest of the day. It's nice to be a bit calmer. I seem to have been running around like a headless chicken for weeks now. Hoping to get some gardening in at some point this week lots of dead stuff to clear up and I want to cosy up the hedgehog house a bit and sort out a temporary rose arch. I've bought a new one with a gate to hopefully keep the boys away from the pond when they visit, or at least hold them up long enough for me to catch up with them. I never leave them out there alone but they move so quick and always head for the water. They have loved pond dipping this year and have been fascinated by the frog spawn and tadpoles.
It must be a stressful time for you DD, hope things improve soon.
I'm a bit of a mongrel @Biglad, both parents were proud Londoners, dad very posh, mum East End, moved to South Manchester just before I was born, 27 years ago you understand of course 🤔. To fit in at school I mimicked the local accent, got my ears clipped at home for not speaking 'properly', then lived all over the country for quite some time with work, including Wales and Birmingham. Settled in West Yorkshire, near the Lancashire border though, and have been in France 7 years. Someone English asked me the other day where I was from because they couldn't place the accent. However, I did a radio interview a few months ago and I could hear my northern twang, although someone also said I sounded posh. 😅 Like I said, mongrel. 🤣

A heads up for some good TV 9pm tonight on BBC 4 Drama out of a crisis - a celebration of Play for Today. So much good writing, directing and acting. Those were the days @punkdoc set it to record!
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
'Hold them up long enough' @Yviestevie - that made me smile Maybe one of those extending leads would be better for them. It managed to clear up here by about 3pm, so I went out and did a bit of tootling around, and planted a couple of things where I took some greenery out. I want a clematis for in there too, but I'll have to wait until the growers have the ones I want. I'm thinking of having an experiment as we approach unsuitable gardening weather. Dave was waiting for me when I came back from my walk, so he got a handful of food. When he realised I wasn't coming back out to sit with him in the rain, he hopped up the steps to the back door, where I sometimes feed him if it's cold or wet. I'm wondering if I can put a bell there and see if I can teach him to just ring it when he wants his dinner....

Raced down to daughter's early this morning as I was so worried about her, only to find she appears to be okay'ish as far as I can tell. Claimed to be working but wouldn't let us into the house which is a bit suspect. Staying overnight at a hotel and taking her out to dinner so may have more chance to find out what really is going on. She's very good at clamming up though. Children! No matter how old they are you never stop worrying about them. I remember my own mother telling me that when I was 58!
Thanks for everybody's good wishes, much appreciated. Hope others troubles get sorted. What a cake DD.
