Enjoying a lovely break, well after a 2 hour session this morning re-doing the staff rota and publishing new opening times as CdeG area has been put on curfew....Had to let yet another member of staff go, not easy but worse over the phone than face to face. š„
Weather here lovely though, nice lunch, walk along the riverside, visited the Hermione and enjoyed a nice cup of coffee in a super coffee shop, I do like to check out how others do things.Ā
Very sad tonight to see so many businesses having to close again or be curtailed in our town, restaurants, swimming pool, cinema etc. But needs must. Unfortunately, geographically our little sleepy town falls under Limoges, a university town, and although there isn't hardly anything near us the new regulations apply.Ā
Charlie is being a sweetheart, he is so happy to be with his family in our little bubble. Our apartment is beautiful, right on the marina and the sun is shining. So nice to see a child's simplistic view of the world. š
I really must stop listening to radio phone ins ....Ā
I know itās a shame but to hear some people on the radio going youād think a six person Christmas was the worst thing in the world since the Battle of the Somme. Ā
Sorry, Ā canāt agree with you on this one. Ā If you normally spend Christmas with just your own small ābubbleā then itās easy ....no changes needed, job done, happy days š. Ā
But if you enjoy big family get togethers ( which I do, pandemic, or no pandemic) then its a worry. Ā We are planning to enjoy Christmas as best we can, but can understand othersā angst. Ā
My girls will be coming home come what may - we will claim the Cummings amendment. Ā And I would love to see my Dad (for whom this Christmas will be a bonus........ although not if he spends it on his own), and my sisters and their families ..... which gets us up to 14. Ā Our Plan B is to congregate on Boxing Day somewhere on a windswept hill. Ā
šš» so please, have a heart for those with family dynamics different from your own šš»
It's exactly a year since we moved to Ireland... how time flies!Ā An unusual year; the builder still needs to come back and finish a couple of things, but we're happy with the house and very happy with the area we live in.Ā And I'm thrilled to have a new garden to get to grips with.Ā Got a dumpy bag of compost and one of soil ordered for delivery next week, so that's my exercise regime sorted for a bit!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Morning all. Ā Weāve had 10mm rain overnight so we are happy.Ā
Pixel came out for a walk to my garden this morning and then looked as though she wasnāt planning to come back in, so I rattled the dry food bag and got an instant response. Sheās now happily ensconced on my chair in my art room again. Ā ššš Ā
These men donāt know how to get her to do what they want! Ā I could teach them a few things. ššš
itās starting to rain again so I guess itāll be an inside day today.Ā
@chicky please donāt think I donāt understand ... I do hope everyone can have the family get together they hope for.Ā
But for some it may not be possible and I despise some parts of the media for already whipping up a sense of āitās not fairā and encouraging misery.Ā
Although we have occasionally had a quiet Christmas (due to work commitments ... working over Christmas so those with young families neednāt) we do enjoy getting together with family and friends ... with the Wonkies and my son over Christmas ... and then travelling to stay with OHās family for New Year ... his mum is in her 80s and lives on her own ... she looks forward to us and OHās sisters and families descending on her for traditional New Year celebrations ... our niece is away on her first term at uni and sheās had Covid and had to isolate in a flat of almost strangers, hundreds of miles away from friends and family ... and then one of her much loved pair of elderly gerbils had to be put to sleep ... does she need a hug and some family time? Ā Of course she does. š¢Ā
Over the years MILās home has become the venue for OHs school friends to meet and catch-up on New Yearsās Eve with food, drink and games and OH doing the First Footing since his dear father died far too early at 61.Ā
MIL will also miss out on visits to/from her recently widowed brother who sheās been supporting through bouts of ill health and a couple of operations this year. He lives Up North and is in Tier 3.Ā
When you get down to it, family dynamics may look different, but most of us need our special people.Ā
Lots of family and friends will be missed if we canāt do what we usually do ... my brother is seriously ill and shielding ... Heās had two new grandchildren since March and only seen them through a window. Ā Iāve not seen him since last Christmas. Are we prepared to risk anyoneās health? Ā Definitely not ... and no one will be putting other family membersā emotional well-being at risk by getting stressed about it.Ā
Our upper lips will be stiff, we will be stoic and our cups will be half full. Worse things have definitely happened at sea and sadly will happen again. We will count our blessings and be happy that even if weāre not together weāre all safe and as well as we can be.Ā
Itās not been a great year and thereās a chance that next year may not be a lot better ... but thereās no use in crying over spilt milk ... weāre going to jolly well find some silver linings and look forward to the crock of gold weāll reach eventually šĀ

Weāre already planning Christmas meals ... flexibility is our theme ... Iām ordering a duck for one of the days when thereās just two of us and a big shoulder of lamb (family favourite) for the family if they can visit. If they canāt I foresee a curry or two from leftovers. Thereāll be a gammon joint ... thatāll keep without freezing (we only have a small freezer) and Iāll be making sausage rolls and mince pies as usual. Theyāll go in the freezer too. We have to have sausage rolls at Christmas ... they were Paās favourite. We had them at his funeral tea too.Ā
Iāll make a fish pie (with fish fresh from the harbour) for Christmas Eve and get a brace of pheasants for the freezer so that if we are home alone for new year we can have something a bit special. Must get plenty of black pudding too ... my leftover pheasant, apple and black pudding pasties have become one of OHās New Year favourites.Ā
This morning OH has just popped down to Wārose ... thereās a prescription to pick up and Sainsbugs didnāt bring our cauliflower yesterday ... theyād run out š¤·āāļø so OH will see if Wrose have any. We have lamb chops tomorrow and I do like a cauli with lamb. šĀ
This morning looks quite bright ... I might get the last of my bulbs in ...Ā
