I love that photo of cosmos watching the TV, Obelixx. Â We are just watching the end of a section of the Flanders race. Nearly midnight here, so will sign off shortly.Â
I really need to get on with a couple of pieces of work that have deadlines, so didn't really have time to wait for oiling @Obelixx ... but there's always the other side when I have the time  but it is a work surface ... it'll have paint and ink on it before longÂ

Afternoon all. My weekend has started today. I did MILâs and our shop early this morning to avoid too many people, for me and for them. We are going in to a âfirebreakâ lockdown at 6pm. I hope people will be giving the fireworks a break too - itâs been ridiculous this Autumn.Â
@punkdoc - many âbigâ things going on in your world, so I hope some of the small things can bring you a bit of joy or positivity.Â
Take care everybody.Â
@Pat E - Iâm not sure that Pixel will want to go home!Â
Yes, but oiling does bring out the grain so well @Dovefromabove.
Rain has stopped play here but that's OK as it was time for a coffee break anyway. Liriodendron, prunus serrulata and a cercidiphyllum all planted with good, wide holes improved with horse muck and then mulched with cardboard held down by upturned turves from their holes.  They're all out in the wild grass area and will be joined by shrubs and perennials in due course.
We've also got the gates up to make a secure entrance to the potager for when we let the hens out of their pen. Just need to close the gap between the fence and the new posts with a bit more mesh and then rig up a safe surround to keep them off the garlic, shallots, PSB, cavolo nero and PSB when we do let them loose.  They've had raspberries this afternoon. They like those!
Take something positive from every day @punkdoc - because there is always something positive if you look for it. I believe we have umpteen tiers being brought in here from next week, but I haven't looked yet. Maybe we can only go out if there's an R in the month, and we hop on one leg or summat.... It cleared up a bit here this afternoon, although it was wet again when I went out this morning, after it looked promising. I regretted not wearing the waterproof trousers though We've not had any fireworks round here @AuntyRach. It usually starts at the beginning of the October school holiday, which was almost two weeks ago now, but I've heard nothing. Hoping that continues Is it stinky, full of fumes stuff @Dovefromabove ? Lovely!
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
It is @Fairygirl đ€Ł. Youâd have loved the smell of the painting studios at my art school. đ. I painted for years with traditional oil paints and linseed and turps and I donât have a problem with it, but OH finds it really impacts on his chest so we usually avoid the smelly stuff (and I use a citrus-based medium with my oil paints instead of turps). The smell had gone now and Iâm going to do the second coat later this evening when OH has finished working in there, so itâll be dry by tomorrow morning đÂ

I love a bit of white spirit or turps @Dovefromabove I watched a bit of Airplane! last week with young fairylet, and she got so annoyed with me saying 'I picked the wrong week to give up glue sniffing', after the Lloyd Bridges character. I forgot it was the last one of those phrases he says after smoking, drinking etc.Â

Sounds like you had a very productive day Obelixx, a good choice of shrubs/trees as well. Are the chooks getting any bolder? We won't be able to go and see my brother and his wife now as they live in Stoke, rather as we had anticipated but still a disappointment. Fingers crossed it doesn't last long. The younger generation can be so censorious at times Fairygirl.  I only spent an hour or so today, raking up leaves from my Shady Bed in the Orchard and taking photos of the eight or so roses still in bloom. Now I've got to play with my phone and work out how to edit and post them. I've not found a 'crop' icon yet. Â
I really must stop listening to radio phone ins .... I know folk will miss family theyâre not able to be with at Christmas, but I well remember when there were grandparents whose children and grandchildren had emigrated to Australia and Canada etc ... long before the days of easy and cheap international phone calls to such places, let alone the internet ... and when letters and cards had to be posted six weeks or so before the day to have any chance of getting there.Â
I know itâs a shame but to hear some people on the radio going youâd think a six person Christmas was the worst thing in the world since the Battle of the Somme. Â
I feel like shouting âwhich bit donât you get about âItâs a pandemic!â?â Â
Itâs as if theyâre sulky children getting bored with a game so they donât want to play any more.Â
I want to bash heads together while muttering âstiff upper lipâ at them. đÂ

Some of these people drive me nuts too @Dovefromabove. They need a serious reality check. More of the 'poor me' attitude that seems to be around. Worrying about whether they should buy a turkey or not. Jeez. If the restrictions alter a week before it -shouldn't they just be pleased they can have relatives round? Who cares what the food is - bl**dy beans on toast would do. Toast would do. Surely folk can make do - it's all part of the fun after all.  @Lizzie27 - she did laugh when the line was finally delivered, although I think she was really laughing at me laughing! They'd never be allowed to make that film nowadays. Â
