Morning SGL, Ante, Ruby and Chive. I think its a bit cooler today and yes, Ruby I do need to get into the garden if possible. My green bin (emptied on Thursday) is begging to be filled up again. The leaves are really coming down off the trees now. There is something rather magical about autumn - glorious colouring everywhere but a slight underying sadness as it signifies the end of the growing season as plants get ready to shut down for the cold months of winter. I do love how nature just gets on with things whether we intervene or not.

Ante, your cooler temperatures will make working in the potato fields much more comfortable for you today. SGL, there is nothing as wonderful as that first cup of tea in the morning:

Morning - sunny and coolish - a day for a bit of pottering outside I think.

Glad the car is going well LB. Can you not put music / whatever on your phone and bluetooth it with your car? I love listening to podcasts and BBC Sounds when I’m on longer journeys. Don’t get me started on insurance companies....

Good to hear you’ve ventured out a little further SGL. I had a day out to a very big garden centre yesterday. It was over an hour’s drive away but they have a drive-through compost facility where you turn up, tell the man what you want, pay and then he loads it all into the back of the car for you. Don’t even have to open the boot. As I needed 12 large sacks of farmyard manure and some MPC it was worth the drive!

Also bought some more tools and kit inside. It was a rather nice GC. They even had a gin corner!

It was Perrywoods near Tiptree @Chivetalking. Probably not a million miles from you. The Place for Plants at East Bergholt (a favourite nursery) is also not that far away when you fancy a day out!

Keeping fingers crossed I’m still going to be able to visit my friends next week. Around here we have a very low infection rate (nearly zero) - but my friends live up in Gt Yarmouth which is a pocket of higher rates. Increased social lockdowns could well be on the cards.

Good afternoon.  Chive have you the radio on whilst painting either radio 4 or music to boogie to.  Ante hope you’re doing well with the potato harvest, you’ll sleep tonight.  Lily I hope your head has cleared.  Hazel I’ve a domed brolly and it doesn’t, touch wood, blow inside out, but I don’t use when very windy:).  LB hope the insurance company sorts it out.  Rather sunny here.  Topbird I hope you’ll be able to see your friends as increasedlockdowns are occurring round the country.

Afties all - quiz in a moment. I am pleased to say that having received 2 automated replies to my emails and beginning to despair I finally received this:

    "Thank you for your email.

I can see the change your tried to make.

Unfortunately, due to system issues, the system fails to detect brand new vehicles.

This means it is unable to give a price to insure it.

Due to this reason, you will have to look for insurance elsewhere.

As this is a system issue, we are happy to wave the cancellation fee.

I do apologise for this inconvenience caused.

    Looking forward to reply.

    Thank you,"

In a way I have to smile at their website being unable to detect brand new vehicles. I have removed the personal info where they asked if a particular card was the one to make repayments to so I am very happy.
I still have 2 days in which to renew so I went to my favourite website filled in all the necessary details, picked the cheapest, clicked the 'Go to provider (or words to that effect) button only to be greeted with this:

"We are performing scheduled maintenance and should be back online shortly.

If your enquiry is urgent please call 0800 092 1284, for everything else please check back soon.

    Our lines are open 8.30am – 8.00pm weekdays and 9.00am – 5.00pm weekends."

Honest your honour I tried my damndest to insure my new car!

Never mind, all will be OK in the end - I hope! đŸ€žđŸ€žđŸ€žđŸ€ž

T'Bird. That is another way to do it but it means transferring my favourite CDs to my lap top and I need an external CD/DVD drive as my new laptop does not possess one. I'll have to get the old laptop out of mothballs as it does have a built in drive for such transference. I will get it all done. I was smiling at your description of collecting your 12 bags of FYM - thats more s**t than the Government spouts in one day! I do hope that you can make your journey next week.

  • Evening everyone,
LB What a palaver just to get insured, why don’t they recognise a new car? Atleast they are waiving the cancellation fee. Thank you for the cheese & wine quiz I have one answer to offer
    4. Feta
Hazel I recall you saying you’d lost your favourite umbrella, glad the replacement has worked out well hope you won’t be needing it any time soon,
@Topbird thanks for the recommendation, that’s not too far from me only about 40 minutes drive according to google maps. I shall have to take a look, it’s  always nice to venture out when the opportunity arises.
Rosie I do have the radio on while I’m doing anything indoors do you?, I like to sing a long if it’s a good tune 😀
We have made good progress today, pleased with the results.
