Pelargoniums (at least the basic ones) are hardy for me, they would probably be hardy for you too, but maybe not on the balcony.
Are the scented ones just variations on the usual pelargonium leaf scent or are these completely different fragrances? I dislike the usual scent but my husband loves it.

I recently bought some from Fibrex... quality plants of good size, and well-packaged... they have a section on scented pelargoniums, some still in stock!

  • They're much nicer (in my view) than the zonal varieties if that's what you're thinking of @edhelka they all have an obvious similar base scent but it's also overlayed with the primary scent that gives the cultivar its name. Usually the have more dainty flowers too.

These three were delivered three weeks ago, and have really taken off. (£16.70 inc p&p).

    Have a look on Eb*y .. :-)
  • I have them on my list for next year! I assume they are only available in the spring to give the nursery the opportunity to grow on seedlings or cuttings. Interesting that some people are able to over-winter them.

I have spent far too much time browsing this site:

@Janie B Thank you so much! The plants look great and I couldn’t resist placing an order already!

They’ve sold out a third of their collection but this should more than suffice for now :) Honestly thank you so much for that link!

@pi@Pianoplayer Ive been on that website loads too 😄 but they don’t take any orders till December. Why don’t you check out the link @Ja@"Janie B" has recommended? I jus placed my order.. they still take orders..

@ph@philippasmith2 Thanks a lot for the kind offer.. I was almost going to take it up and then I came across JanieB’s link.. now I have ten plug plants ordered and on their way to me.

@edhelka@edhelka I have not grown pelargoniums before but these scented varieties have extremely fragrant foliage especially when one brushes past them.. it was instantly captivating to me.. and the fact there is such a wide range of fragrances. I do intend to grow them inside as house plants though - as my balcony has just enough space for two or three more roses for now... 😉
  • @celcius_kkw yes, I have book-marked @Janie B suggestion for the future! As mine would be outdoors, I have to wait until the spring anyway. Let us know how you get on.

Feeling the pressure... hope your plants are as lovely as mine @celcius_kkw! My fave atm is Australian Mystery, not in the scented leaves section, but definitely has scented leaves. I keep meaning to crush a handful under running water for a lovely relaxing bath (a la Sarah Raven, I think!) ... I ordered several of these from them years ago, and despite being left outside in a trough under our window all winter for a couple of years, they are still going strong. My new ones are Lord Bute (saw this at Coton Manor Garden, a wonderful day out for anyone in Northants), Mme Nonin and Cottenham Wonder. Best of luck!

  • @Janie B I’m well excited. I’ve only experienced a scented pelargonium once before - and it was mint scented - it smelled more minty than real mint lol! That’s why I was so entranced by it. Also it’s so much fun running my fingers through the foliage and picking the scent along the way.
