Smirry became slightly more hefty when I was out @Biglad ;)
We'll need to keep you up to date with Scottish terms for weather. We're like the Eskimos and the 50 names for snow. [ even though that's a myth  ;)
I'm not convinced about nematodes @Allotment Boy. I think the conditions have to be good for using them, and maybe you'd need to use them a lot more as you're not in a 'contained' plot too.

  • Thanks @Fairygirl I have used them before to good effect but I think you are right as the soil has to stay damp for up to 6 weeks  them to be able to work properly. We had that very hot dry spell so they would have died off too quickly. Trouble is they are expensive too. As one of my fellow plot holders said you could buy a lot of spuds for what I spent on the treatments, but the shop ones just don't have the taste of my own. One of the grand kids  said "where did you get these potatoes" when we gave them their first meal at the start of their extended stay here.

We have the opposite problem that the ground stays cold and wet for a long time - especially in spring, so it makes it hard to time it if you need to use them twice. I gave up trying it for vine weevil because of it. By the time it's warm enough, it's a bit late.
Would have been fine this year, but I didn't have a crystal ball!

Just had a lovely walk.  Got the little ferry from Itchenor to Bosham (pronounced Bozum).  Zoom in to see the ferry’s name 🤣

Someone's got a sense of humour Chicky!
Hope the staff interview isn't too bad DD.
Glad the family arrived safely Hosta, babies that age are gorgeous (as long as you can give them back)!
When OH's mother died, all the children drew lots for their favoured articles/furniture, we thought that was the fairest way Busy-Lizzie.
I've had a busy day, had my hair cut this morning, then drove across town to an independent GC where they had a knife sharpener man & van set up in the car park.
He was inundated so I left my gear there, drove home for lunch and drove back again afterwards. I had shears, an axe and 3 pairs of secateurs done for £25 which I thought was a bargain. I also had a wander round the GC and bought three lovely iron plant stakes with stylized  flower heads on top with birthday money.

Been drizzly most of the day but now the sun has just peeped through - right in my eyes!

  • Hope everyone’s had a good day, little ones have been cuddled, poorly ones are feeling a bit better and the rest of us can think back on at least one positive thing.
I’ve had a lovely evening on the sofa with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and a good book. 😊
Night night all ... sleep tight 😴

  • Evening all,

Sounds like most people had a good day.

My staff pep talk went better than I'd hoped, sometimes just standing up to a bully is enough. There's a plethora of problems beneath but all I care about is keeping everyone here happy, especially customers and staff need to know what's expected and what won't be tolerated. She's pushed the boundaries and I've reacted, in all honesty prepared to lose her if necessary. All a game of chicken really, but I think I've won - for today anyway. Not how I like to spend my days, baking cakes is so much simpler.
Full house tonight all very manageable & then we all had a powercut! 😱 Thankfully all main meals had gone out, but doing desserts in the dark was fun and then the visa machine wouldn't work! They've promised to come back & pay tomorrow..... luckily it's a small town so I think they will. 🙄😅😲

Must sleep, very best wishes to you all. 😘😘😘

The Plumcot has decided that it’s springtime. Must be time for the winds to arrive and blow all the blossoms off as usual. 😡

Also, Hubby got energetic a couple of days ago and dug over the two compost bins. 👏👏

    Good morning everyone.
