I won't repeat what my dad thought of Tommy Steele though  :D

I’d give him an award just for his performance in Half a Sixpence ... a bit ‘hammy’ possibly, but it always makes me smile, and we need smiles these days 😊

Like wise @Fairygirl when Elton John was made a Sir, OH's Da said "what for that racket"? That is the mild version.

Ooh - big Elton fan here @floralies - steady on  :D
Having said that - he needs to go away now. Should have stopped a long time ago.
He's done a lot of good though, and I think that's what he got it for.
I don't like the whole system though. It's completely outdated and irrelevant.

I should clarify that my Dad crossed paths quite often with Mr Steele in the dim and distant past, so he was speaking from personal experience.  ;)

The MBE for Marcus Rashford was far more deserved than all the gongs handed out to the England cricket team when they beat Australia for the first time in a million years.  They should all have been ordered to hand them back when they reverted to type and got stuffed 5 - 0 in the next series.

There’s the usual worthy ones and ones that make me smile (Sir Tommy Steele anyone!? 🥂) and the usual ones that furrow my brow.
Am I the only person to have said "wow - is he still alive?" OH has no idea at all who he is

Like the actor who said he checks the Obituary list each day - just to make sure he isn't in it @B3:D

Does anyone remember which thread had posts about tennis elbow? Was there any useful advice or just bewailing?
