Not my sentiments at all @Hostafan1 and @Fairygirl I know all the work he has done for charities and I have his music, that was just Da's opinion and he was very opinionated!
Well deserved for Tommy Steele, I saw this film at the pictures many years ago and have watched it each time it’s been on TV.  He’s done so much for the music film and stage. https://youtu.be/xThIP2AGZjs

This is what annoys me. He has done so much for the entertainment industry and been paid for it. I think awards should be given only to those who have done things beyond the realm of their paid employment and made a significant difference to society. Marcus Rashford is definitely in this group.
I am more ambivalent about give rewards to people in the public eye who serve as rôle models for a younger generation. I guess Tommy Steele and Lorraine Kelly are in this category - and maybe the former too, I don’t know - but I do feel that a fat pay packet plus public recognition should be reward enough without bestowing honours on them.
A third group, in my view, deserving OBE’s etc are those that have done something quite exceptional in their field. Scientific breakthroughs, peerless artistic or sporting performances and that kind of thing. As it is at present any singer, actor, sportsperson etc who has been knocking around for a while and paid their taxes will surface at the top of the list sooner or later.
And while I’m on a roll and having a good moan, can I add that the bloody hunt is in the village today so I am having to keep the cats in. There was a past experience of the dogs getting into our garden and terrifying our pets.
@floralies - I'm not sure my Dad would have been keen on Elton either! My favourite comment from a family member came from my dear old grandpa. We had a James Taylor album on one day [not sure how that even happened] and he said, straight faced 'I can't understand what he's singing about'. If it had been some heavy metal band or summat, I could have understood, but if there's one thing you can't accuse JT of, it's poor diction! Even funnier when you consider some of the old tosh folk sang about in the twenties, when he was a young man! Happy daysÂ

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Do you remember in ye olden days @punkdoc, when you got annoyed if artists brought out a new album without the lyrics? It was virtually impossible to get hold of them then. The internet makes it so much easierÂ
Although, it means you don't get so many misheard, and often very funny, lyricsÂ

I used to love old fashioned album covers, some of the designs were works of art [ sometimes better than the album contents. Then, as you say, the lyrics. I would often pore for hours, trying to make sense of stuff, which I reckon was never meant to make sense.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
