@Busy-Lizzie I think the photos are of Peter Beales rose gardens so you expect the experts to be able to do it but then they have mass plantings of the same rose. My garden  is probably like yours nothing flowering enmasse together even in June

@Busy-Lizzie that’s amazing ! @edhelka don’t worry about asking, go ahead. That is beautiful!

So an update guys... I emailed David Austin after speaking to someone on instant chat. Anyway.. I have been given a list of suitable climbers for my pots. Which is quite annoying after the first person I spoke to point blank said none! And this lady has kindly given me a selection of pink climbers suitable ...

@K67 You meant me, not Busy-Lizzie :) You are probably right, growing the same varieties or at least class or type probably helps. But I often see photos on Instagram from other rose gardeners (from Europe or the USA) with the same effect. Maybe warmer summer also helps, making the roses more floriferous, the flushes longer and the overlap better.
@kathleen_cardwell23 I think it's a matter of opinion. Nobody can really promise that the roses will do well for you in your pots. It is safe to underpromise and overdeliver and tell you that the pots are too small. I grow bigger roses/smaller climbers in similar pots but I can't tell how they will do long-term. And I don't care that much because I can repot if needed but repotting with your structure in place would be tricky. 50x50cm pots should be good for at least 3 years.

I’ve ordered a Mortimer Sackler guys... and pre ordered the kiss me Kate...

will need to decide on a clematis for the back of the arbour now.

Not to mention the rest of my garden. It feels never ending. I don’t want my new build garden to look like a new build garden...

    Apologies @Busy-Lizzie and @edhelka 😊

It won't look like a new build garden once it fills out and settles down.
My other daughter had Saint Swithun, it's lovely and not too big for a climber. There are lots of roses in pots in David Austin's courtyard bit of his garden.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

I had another email from DA now saying my pots aren’t suitable for climbers after just recommending them and I purchased. I give up lol...
  • Probably just covering themselves in case things don't work out.  Just be sure to feed and water well.
