Thanks lovely, it’s hard to tell but I’ve already painted it with a paint and treatment . It’s a green colour. @kathleen_cardwell23 Sorry! I love the combination of pink roses and purple clematis. There are a few scented clematis too. Thorncroft website is another good supplier
That's a lovely seating area @kathleen_cardwell23 I have a smaller arbour that I am growing Kiss Me Kate on. Only in her first year so has a way to go yet but is classed as very fragrant and good disease resistance. Gets to around 8ft. Also doing well in it's first season is Dixieland Linda. My newest is Storm Cloud also in a pot.
As said by others a clematis would also look really nice.
I’ve just looked up Kiss me Kate and it’s beautiful!
@kathleen_cardwell23 I've never had bare roots but I have 5 ordered for November which is when they usually dispatch them. There is this guide from the David Austin site:
Or Aloha is another one for being very fragrant and good disease resistance. I have Dixieland Linda which is a sport (mutation) of Aloha but is apricot shade instead of pink like Aloha. Smells lovely and I have had quite a few blooms and buds still to open even though I've only had it a couple of months. It's all down to personal preference really and what catches your eye. I think something with good fragrance is nice for a seating area where you can truly enjoy the scent.
Bare root roses are probably easier to plant than potted, no leaves etc to get in the way or buds to knock off. Just make sure you soak the roots before planting. They will come with instructions Also cheaper. I only have 4 roses and the only bare root is a much stronger plant.

This is a combination I would love to try one day. Just scroll down to roses and the picture is there.

Alternatively if you wanted a plant now then Gertrude Jekyll is a very popular one but as said before it is known for being very thorny.
