I emailed the main website email address and got this reply:
"The forum wouldn’t let you make
changes to your profile location, because it didn’t like your username
format. I have added underscores, so now Bill_and_Ben which then allowed
the location to be
saved."
I went in and found that my location had been added (and my username changed). I tried to amend the location to my more precise one and got the 'Permission problem' error as before. So I logged out of the forum and back in again. My username had then reverted to the one with spaces and I got the 'Username...' error.
I've been trying for months to add my location, Dove has alerted the mods to the problem a few times, perhaps they have all gone away on a long vacation.
I've contacted support again and they've now changed my username in the main website as well as in the forum (adding in underscores which I hate) and my location has now stuck. And I was able to amend it by logging in and out of both twice, I have pointed out that there is still a glitch though that many are having.
The person who answered my emails was Angelica Wilson who is Content Producer on the website. I emailed her on [email protected] as I couldn't find a way of contacting support people directly on this forum.
Now I have to invent a new username as these underscores look terrible and having underscores in general is bad practice as they get missed and muddled!

I give up!
