Afties all. Had a nice visit. Decided when I got home that the car needed a wash. For shame I could not let it go for its service and MOT tomorrow in the state it was in. On a scale of 1-10 of how dirty it was, about 35 sounds about right! It was beginning to develop its own little ecosystem and the local birds had been using its roof for target practice. It is now pristine and I'm soaked - it only rained twice whilst I was cleaning! At least it wasn't cold.
I have never thought about just eating rose hips - not with all those hairs inside them! Sorry to hear about your power cut SGL. At least it was only an hour. I thought anywhere between the two hours 'sco quoted would be early for you, you little night hawk.

  • Labybird; amazing what wild food you CAN eat. Of course the stewed rose hips get strained, through double linen because of the hairs.. It is knowing what is safe. Chickweed and dandelions are superfoods. Sadly I have obliterated dandelions here through eating the flowers a few a day. I do not join the locals in winkles and what they called in Orkney"! And so on...

Tried sitting out a while but it is totally oppressive out there. The tourists were city folk; very loud voices and gazing at a guide book and map. Missing the real beauty. Heard them going back to the pier. This place is so peaceful   and Mayo folk who come over speak quietly.

Before I forget. can anyone ID this please? I sowed myriad old seeds . anything that might yield green edibles. but this tastes bitter. I have it in abundance. A shame not to use it.TYVM

That pic looks like a lettuce ,Island but if it’s bitter I would get someone elses opinion before eating it . Some lettuces are bitter .

Aaah silly me Island. I did not realise that you stewed the rose hips first and I agree with Ruby, your plant looks like lettuce to me too.

Good Evening everyone, sitting in a very minimal room now just 3 chairs and the TV which will be removed tomorrow,
Rosie What have you been doing today? the cooler weather is much better for us,
Rubee sounds like you and LB got all the rain today, hope you’ve had a nice day,
Hazel Sorry to hear your son has come down with the bug again, it sounds nasty so mind you don’t get it back again. I didn’t lift anything too heavy, just kept the tea coming. Hope all goes well tomorrow with the plumber, is it a boiler service?
Lily Strange things happening on here for you. Oh that’s a late Sco delivery and it takes a time to put it away what a nuisance.
Pauline Nice to see you how are you getting on?
Glad you had a nice catch up today LB, I’m just the same about presenting a clean car for it’s MOT & service I feel it helps a great deal 😉
Island Rosehip syrup I’ve never tried it, I thought your green plant looked like a lettuce but I’m no expert in these things if it tastes bitter I’d be careful.
    Have a nice evening everyone.

    Good Evening all.
I had problem to connect on forum whole day. Now is much better. Hot but easy day here. I overslept almost whole afternoon.

LB, you and Island mentioned a juice from rose hips. We gather hips from dog rose and make marmalade. Lot of work but it worth it on the end.
Hope so that you all had a easy Sunday.

Evening Ante, Rosehip marmalade sounds very nice. If you don’t mind me asking how have you learnt all your skills, there are so many you have with baking & growing your own fruit & veg is it passed on through your family?
Sorry I hope that doesn’t sound rude to ask,
Rosie Lily’s tv there is always something on isn’t there 🙂, I must admit I enjoyed the speed of drying my wet things during the hot spell.
Hope you have a nice evening.

    Evening LB and Chive.

Chive, you are not rude at all. Baking, making marmalade and juice I learned from my mother. Slowly, but now I can do all this things alone. Other side, my mother never cook. My father always cooks and she makes sweets.
Growing veg, fruits and flowers I learned myself. Gardening is my passion from early days and I have luck because on our tv we have almost all british gardening shows. I read a lot about gardening and learn on try and mistake tactics.
Just ask me anything without hesitation.

LB, good night and sleep well.
