I would start them now, keep them somewhere sheltered over the winter, plant in Spring.......that's what I do
@Mary370 Thank you so much for your reply.

    I'm going to do it.

Does anybody know how many seeds I should put in each cell?

    Thank you

It also depends on where you live.
The sowing times on the packets are always far too early for where I am.

Some seeds are better sown direct though - it's always a good idea to do a bit of research first, because some don't like being moved. :)

Try and just sow a couple of seeds in each cell. You can sow more, and then thin out though. Depends on how many seeds you have.  :)

@Fairygirl Thank you for your kind reply🖒

Makes sense. It would probably be worth me speaking to some locals perhaps...

The pack says average contents 400 seeds but I doubt it, I'll believe that when I see it 😃

So coming back to my original question, does it even matter when perennials are sown indoors or not because according to the pack the cut off point was April? Personally I'm not concerned that they won't flower until next year, I just want to get them going, or does it mean after April the seeds won't germinate?

    Thank you 🌱

  • On the front the pack says Sow Feb - Jun so you're still within the sowing months anyway. The sowing outside months just mean that you won't need to keep them in a warm place because outdoors will be warm enough.

I dont sow in cells, half seed tray, margarine tubs, the things you get grapes whatever in, tiny seeds just sprinkle over thinly, old fashioned cheap tea strainer, I use one also for collecting the seeds, shake them thru get rid of the rubbish,

Lol... I have just 'sown' (not planted), aubrietia (the same one in the initial pics). I have posted a pic below of the cell tray, and it is all in home made compost 😊

I accidently made some holes in a few cells then realised the seeds are not to be covered with soil 😞

Also I'm just about to do some Alyssum, carpet of snow.

@Nanny Beach You inspired me to drill some holes in some old pot noodle pots (x10) for when I move the plants into larger containers, I have added pics below ☺

    Apologies for the long post.

P.s can I cover the trays in cling film to retain heat and moisture?

    Thanks.
