Oh @Dovefromabove if only I had checked those links earlier.  I bought Hosta Popcorn today, such a shame when I could have had one of those beauties. :D

Apologies if this has been covered before - I skimmed a few pages but didn’t see it.

Is there a ‘traditional’ view whether to leave hosta flowers to open or to remove them when you first see the bud stalk ?

Think it's just personal preference.  I leave mine on because they are quite pretty.  Others prefer to take them off as they grow them for the leaf colour/pattern.

I leave mine one, simply because I've got too many to remove. I try to remove seeds pods to save their energy.
Bees love the flowers so it's a shame to remove them IMHO

You very kindly recommended some hosta varieties for a pot in my shaded alcove. Since then I have been scouring the internet and visiting GCs to try and find the varieties you mentioned, to no avail. Mainly sold out - is it just the `wrong` time of year? When are `new` stocks likely to be in? Thanks!

    Try New Forest Hostas

I've never used them but they get rave reviews on a Hosta group I use on Facebook
