Yes it was. Nice hill @Woodgreen. It doesn't get a lot of attention because it's a bit of a schlepp into it, but the views are grand, if you get a good day. Lots of people bike in to the foot. When I did it, it was the end of July, so all the orchids were in flower on the open, boggy stretch before the final part of the ascent. Lovely The resident heilan' coos on the way in are a feature too. There are people who have never got beyond the farm/distillery because they're too frightened to go past them! We were just talking about them randomly on the forum recently.

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Walking through St Ives at dusk the other evening OH saw a flock of starlings swoop in and settle down for the evening in the crimson Virginia creeper clothing the wall of a stone cottage …. no garden, no trees, right in the narrow street slap in the middle of Downalong (for those who know the town) … chattering and twittering as they settled, it looked as if that’s their regular night time roost. 😊
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
They've been busy here too @Dovefromabove. They're messy, manky b***ers, but it's lovely to see them flocking and swooping around. All the birds were a bit edgy yesterday with the weather, especially the crows. Lots of noise and activity, and mobbing.

It's another coincidence @Fairygirl, but when I was booked to go up to Scotland last year I was breaking the journey at Carndow for two nights, in the hope of a fine day to go up Beinn Bhuidhe. It's the only Munro in that immediate area that we didn't do, because it's so isolated.
It's a nice walk @Woodgreen, and I didn't get around to doing it until about 5 or 6 years ago because of that distance. It's still a bit of a journey for me to get there. Well worth it though I did photos on the camera thread at the time. I'll see if I can find it for you.

They can be difficult to spot can't they @coccinella When I used to take my daughters to school, we often parked near a garden which had a conifer hedge before walking the last bit. Spent many moments watching them dodge in and out. I didn't do photos of that walk @Woodgreen, sorry. I'll stick some on the current camera thread later.

I would love to see the Bee eaters actually in my garden and not just in a flock flying over and migrating down to warmer climes, such a distinctive bird.
